You are really looking a freewheel road hub.

This or a cassette hub with spacers. You don't need to overthink your SS hub.

Surly

What? No they don't.

Single speed hub with allen bolts in a hollow axle? Yes, they do. In 120, 130, or 135 spacing.

Singlespd 01-14-14 08:24 AM

Sure as **** they do haha

Them being made overseas will most likely be a problem for the OP though.

hrv013 01-14-14 11:26 AM

Yeah, that narrows it down to just a handful of choices.

Lets sit back and watch him find a chain.

Or do we just get USA made fever on objects of our choosing??

Let me rephrase my original comment. When I say oversees I mean cheap quality as in China. Other oversees components are ok via Japan and Taiwan.

I built a wheel with a surly hub a few months ago.The quality looks and feels good for the price. The axle bolts are a little small though.

If you want a product that is built locally (we turn our hubs by hand) you will have to pay a little more for the quality of the workmanship, materials, and the fact folks here work for more than .80 / hr.

There are a few more smaller builders that turn out custom hubs... the only differences are in how they look and in our case, we tend to build hubs that will outlast the bikes they are put on.

Considering that PW hubs are mass produced on a CNC, their price is actually a little higher than it should be as the design is simple and I know what the machining costs would be to turn out the billet stock as we have looked into this.

Early PW hubs and Arvon hubs are nearly identical as they were both designed by machinists at the same time in different locations and there are quite a few iterations and variations in design that followed although the basic design has not changed. We also make disc capable hubs and models to serve on tandems and touring bicycles that have additional bearings and axle support.

The hubs we built for the 1984 Olympics were totally exquisite... I have a set that I need to shoot and plan to keep these for display and might be able to get some of the carbon disc wheels they were laced to which were also designed here.

I was only aware of Surly doing 15 mil and QR axles for their hubs. Huh.

Welcome to doing business in overpriced NorCal.
