Repost from C&V, got some early Specialized wheels to go with my vintage carbon set up. Planning on using it for a 12 mile time trial in a few months.
Still deciding if I should peel the Specialized logos off or leave them on.

Pretty happy with how this turned out. a significant upgrade from the caad10 in terms of comfort and speed.
thinking about gumwall tires too... Probably Strada LGG's or veloflex in 25mm.

this is a 2012 R5 frameset which i've built up myself by moving all my components from my existing caad10 to it - along with buying a new crankset.
It was a pretty easy transition, and saved me quite a bit of money. eBay also made it pretty simple too- i knew what i wanted and found it.
but, if we are talking just walking into an LBS and buying a prebuilt bike,
A brand new caad10 with ultegra is in the $2000 range.... and a brand new R5 with ultegra is in the 5k range.
hope that helps.

Just got this guy, 1988 Raliegh Technium Tri-Lite, $40. Then gave my friend a 12 pack of beer and we (I mean he) got to work on it yesterday. Let's see what was going on (of course I forgot the BEFORE pictures);
- Rear derailure didn't want to shift well, soaked it in WD40, fixed.
- Stem was jacked way up high, way past the "max height" line and had slight play in headset, re-packed and tightened, fixed.
- Seat post bolt hole was all jacked up, somehow the channel/hole was pinched in the middle so I had 2 adjustments for the saddle, sliding forward or nose to the sky, friend put it in his mill, fixed.
- Tires were old and dry rotted, friend gave me 2 slightly used tires, fixed.
- Pedals were jacked, lots of PB blaster and a 4ft cheater bar fixed that, repealed with my 105s.
- Slight play in BB (idk how, but the BB had dead bugs and other nasty stuff in it), re-packed and tightened, still a little play and bearings are pitted, will replace.
- Bar tape was unraveling backwards, half-ass re-wrapped it, will replace.
- Hoods are tearing, hope I can replace them without buying need levers, not sure which ones will work.
- Rear derailure hanger was bent, friend put the hanger in a vice and straightened it out, still doesn't like to shift into 3rd sometimes, pseudo fixed.
- Going to replace brake and derailure cables, hopefully that fixes the shifting problem.
- Going to get a new saddle too.
- Had no bottle cage bolts, took bolts off old stem face-plate, will be buying 1 white and 1 yellow cage.
- Going to try and clean up the seatpost a little, previous owner was short and had it slammed, couldn't see the nice flutes on it.
Super pleased with it though, very rideable

Can anyone tell me what this little boss/tab thing is for? Located on drive side seat stay

1988-89 Gazelle Formula Race. Should be my main geared bike for this summer. Full DB Reynold 501 with Shimano 105 grouppo. These were sold as frame only models.

Thanks,
Since moving down to the coast, I have had the same thought concerning most of my geared bikes. But since building up the Rush, they are all safe now !
A. Tendon is behaving itself now but still not completely right. Proper foot retention was the cure.

This is my new GT Grade. It is quite an upgrade from my old purefix. I have had it for about 3 weeks and am in love with it. My cousin works for a company that own GT, so I was able to get a discount - otherwise I don't think I could really afford it.
It took a while to get used to riding on the hoods - mainly just because on my old bike I was running pursuits with a drop from the stem, so my hands we always so close to the pivot point of the head/fork. Being on the hoods means much more of the "turn" is translated into hand/arm/shoulder motion. Coupled with the fact the the bike is much more nimble and responsive, I found myself feeling a bit unsettled... as if I was always trying to slightly correct a subtle wobble. A few hours on the bike got rid of that.
Right now it's stock except for the San Marco Rolls saddle I swapped in. The GT saddle that came with the bike is great - very comfortable. The change was purely cosmetic. The only thing I want to add is a clipless system. I hate the ****ty cages and straps on it now.

I really don't understand why they didn't give the grade mounts of any sort. Like it's made for the "ride all day on gravel/dirt/road" people but you can't put a rack or fenders on it. What. Love the frames shapes, though.
