7800 only came in clear coated silver unfortunately

Shimano usually reserves black for their 105 groups while the higher end groups get the fancy coatings.

Thanks for the tip! I'll probably have to pick up a set in silver then. Incidentally I have the 105 5700 group (in black) on another bike. Those have really nice brakes too. Will probably go DA though since I'm looking to drop the most weight (got Dia Compe caliper now, not sure how heavy they are).

Picked up a slightly mismatched road wheel set for teh crabon Z5. Mavic Ksyrium SR for the front, Mavic Ksyrium SLS on the back end. Replaced a stock set of wheels that were just alright. These are definitely lighter, look soooo much better, and that hub sound is bliss. Not gonna lie, was sucked in by the look. Front hub has white flanges and a carbon look hub that matches the bike perfectly. Rear hub is solid white. Bike is gloss black carbon with white logos and cages. Fat bladed black spokes and they look like they are meant to be on there. Will get a picture when everything is finished up.

I have a pair of silver 105 calipers from a 5500 nine speed groupset if you want them.

Functionally perfect and the only visual flaw is that the logo on the rear caliper is sun faded. Kool Stop salmon pads on them with lots of life left. They still have dirt on them from the last ride a year ago. What you see in the photo will wipe right off.

These stop way better than the newest 105 5800 brakes. If they were black then I'd put them back on my bike.

No charge for a friend if you think you could use them. Just let me know.

Tim,

Thanks, I think those will be a great upgrade (esp with the double pivots). Maybe you can bring them on our next ride?

The American Classic hub is totally cool but curious why you did't go with a WI front?

Picked up some Bontrager compact drop bars and a Cinelli Pista stem for $25 on craigslist. Glad I was able to reuse the fizik bar tape i purchased recently.

i cut both of those hubs out of orphaned wheels that i found laying around the shop. i mean, i wish i could have found a matching wi tracker front hub but whatever. they were free.99, both are silver, and made in america, so it works for me.

No money spent but today a regular customer of the shop gifted me a perfectly broken-in vintage Turbo WCS in great condition. Stoked!

I would say overall you came out on top of that trade. That rear hub is serious unobtainium stuff. And you'll just love the dynamo. Photos of bike?

Kitsbow Geysers Jersey.

Looking for gear better suited to gravel, stuff that isn't so delicate that it will fall apart when wearing a Camelbak, little longer sleeves and drop tail, will hide stains, etc.

This one is 43% Merino and has two zippered pockets, one on the chest and another waterproof in the rear. $83 at Backcountry.

I'm hoping the front pocket will fit a whole bagel.

In anticipation of setting a new worlds record on my clandestine 51 mile course, I bought a Profile Design Century Aero Bar and last night a used HED Jet 60 front wheel. I am also armed with a Giro Air Attack road/aero helmet in a color no one else would buy at a big discount from Competitive Cyclist. I'm going to look really, really fast and a bit of a "dandy" in my turquoise pot!

Protip:

Backcountry.com owns competitivecyclist.com. Everything available at Competitive Cyclist is also available at Backcountry. Their websites are just different front ends for the same back end ordering system.

Contact backcountry and ask to have a "Gearhead" assigned, really just a commissioned account rep. My guy is Kyle Livingston, 801.736.4337, klivingston@backcountry.com.

Kyle does two day free shipping on everything, no matter how small, even a five dollar part. He will do price match if you find something for less elsewhere. Kyle will ship several sizes of a garment in two days and will include a pre-paid return shipping label so that I can ship back what doesn't fit for free. If I order something and it doesn't fit I just email them and they get a different size out the door that same day before I even return the one that doesn't fit with no extra charge for the second garment shipped.

Any of their gearheads will do this and it is worth giving them a call.

In three months everyone will be complaining about the cold and a Castelli Perfetto jersey will be $169 instead of the $69 price at Backcountry now.

My plan is to do lots of base miles this winter and join the gym again, surprise a few wise ass guys next spring.
