Sourcing 70x110mm bb

I've been looking for a Shimano UN53 bb in 70x110mm. So far I've only found a couple sites in the UK that has them. Anyone seen them online?

Yeah ITA thread...if I get a Campy bb do I need Campy cranks? I'm planning on getting a set of the IRO cranks.

feck. scratch that what I said about the campy BB. You need different cranks for a campy bb.

I had a wicked hard time finding a 70 X 110 myself and went for the old school sealed dura ace square taper track BB at 109. I think I got it off of eBay for $40. I don't think Nashbar had the UN-53 at the time because i surely would have gone with it. I have one on my beater and it works fine.

Thanks for the nashbar link. They don't specify the threading, but there are two different 70x110mm listed. I sent them an e-mail.

That is strange that they have two on there. I suspect it is an error. 70 X whatever always means Italian threading as this is the only one that comes on 70mm BB shells.

LOL...that makes sense. I just got home from work so my brain is kinda fried. I'm going to grab a Newcastle so I can relax. Thanks, man.

On a somewhat related thread hijacking note I had a strange experience with shell width. I inherited an old frame from a friend of mine and the bottom bracket was trashed. Sounds easy enough to fix right?

The first thing I did was remove the BB. As I was unsure of the threading of said BB, I had to be very careful. It turned out it is right hand thread on both sides. OK next step, measure the width of the BB shell, 68mm. Aha, French threading, this sucks. Spoke with the kind folks at Harris and they let me in on a way to install one of the older Shimano un-73's with Phil French BB rings. When I got home to install it the rings were far too small. Obviously not French.

It turns out that at some point one of the previous owners of said frame stripped the BB threads and had it rethreaded Italian. In the end learned that I have a very unique 68mm wide Italian threaded BB shell.
