IRO Mark V Pro?
what is the difference between this and the normal mark V?
|
The Pro doesn't have rear brake braze-ons, and no rear brake hole. Don't ask me why it costs more to get the same frame with less stuff on it.
|
Demand, people want it for fixed. Many fixed riders want a clean look and don't use rear brakes
|
Besides the lack of braze-ons and drillings I think it's also made out of different steel and has slightly tighter geometry...
|
It also takes a more common seatpost size 27.2, rather than 26.0 for the stock Mark V
[Edit: ignore this. The stock Mark V used to take a 26.0 which caused a few headaches for the early IRO adopters. Seems Tony has fixed this.] |
It uses heat treated steel and they're also upgrading it to a straight bladed fork. When I emailed Tony last month he said that if I bought the Pro then that he would upgrade me to the straight bladed fork when it arrived for the price of shipping. Don't know if that offer still stands or if the forks have already arrived though.

well according to the website, their geometries are identical.
and they use the same size seatpost, 27.2 the Pro seems to use "heat treated tubing" whereas the regular is regular Cro-Mo. There is also a negligible difference in weight beween the two frames. I guess which can be accounted for through the lack of braze-ons. no mention about the straightness of forks, though the Pro is still pictured with the regular curvy one. |
I am going to stock one or the other, probably the base model for the rear brake mount. They both look good for the money.
|
Straight blade forks still on the way, some of the tubes are of a different material. (all Cro-Mo)
On the Pro heat treated and then air cooled. No Braze-ons, no rear brake mount. For the life of me I can't tell the difference on the tubing. It just cost more to get them heat treated. That's it in a nut shell. Mark V best bang for the buck. Mark V Pro smooth lines a bit less weight no braze-ons. tony |
thanks...i am considering buying one myself after seeing the messenger cronicals trailer... thats the mark V pro right?

What was it about the trailer that made you want to get an IRO? |
the trailer at www.cinecycle.com
|
"What was it about the trailer that made you want to get an IRO?" |
o sorry lack of reading and typing skills... o i dunno it looks smooth and herd very good things about tony.
|
heard haha
|
I've heard nothing but great things about IRO. I'm gonna get me one of those Mark V frames :D
|
I ordered my Mark V Pro today AND a Chris King headset! OOOOH I can't wait! :D
|
Since I've been back home I've seriously been selling all of my stuff in hopes of scraping together enough skrilla to order a Mark V frameset.
I was halfway there, then I ended up spending $120 on GAS!! Yeah, I had a job interview in a city about 8 hours away. $2.12 per gallon of regular really, really, really gets on my nerves. Gaaaaah. I was so angry. |
I think I am going to go ahead and purchase the Mark V today. Just having some problems determining what size to ride... Im 6'0 with 31-32 inseem. Not sure to go with the 59" or the 62" any suggestions?

Probably 59
I'm 6'2" with about 32-33 inseam and it's a tad small for me |
I am 6 feet rode a Mark V 59 for about 7 months then traded it for a 62. Feels a lot better now.
|
I have a 30.5 inseam which is the S/O height for the 53. I'm 5'10". I got a 56 and I'm glad I did. I needed the bit longer TT. I initally used a 100mm stem but went to a 130mm the 100mm was "ok" on the top of the bars but as soon as I went to the drops I was cramped. Here is my setup.
3t The Stem Profile Bars 42mm....sort of road traditional no ergo BS Basic Ritichie LOGIC HS IRO Velocity Deep V wheelset IRO crankset with FSA 44t ring Nashbar brakeset/Shim BR-600 brake levers 17t Shimano FW/17t Soma cog KMC 7 spd chain Brooks Pro Saddle (dark) Dimension basic seatpost Michelin 28mm Axial Sport tires IRO 68X110 BB I ride it both SS and fixed hence the F/R brakes. I am beginning to prefer fixed. Not unusal. I may elect to get a 53mm Pro and put some Crowhorns on it and go brakeless or just a front. Tomorrow is my day off and it supposed to be 60 deg! Atlast a day of sunshine for riding. |
