how small is too small to ride a fixed gear
I have an old juvenile 10 speed bike 17" seat tube with 540mm wheels I can fit standard mtb wheel 559mm with narrowish tires 1.25 - 1.5. How bad it would be to lace a fixed gear hub to a 26" rim and make a très small fixed gear, Maybe for a vertically challenge person. Anyone out here did something like that?

I've never done anything like that, but do have two small track framed FG bikes with 650c wheels. I would imagine that you'd end up with something similar. The only issue would be the bottom bracket height being very low, such that shorter cranks might be required to avoid pedal strike when cornering.

alright thanks the cranks on it was a 152mm.

David, it's all about the size of the rider. A 10 year old can quite happily ride a full on race bike sized to fit him, but if his dad climbed onto the same bike, it'd be stupid.
I think your idea has merit ... provided you have a rider the right size to make use of it. Given that, go for it :thumb: |
