This a good idea?

Looking for a cheap, fun weekender fixie bike. Was thinking about getting a Fuji Track and putting on some brakes, but then realized, why not go used?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...141965228&rd=1

If I can get it for $150 or less, is it worth it?

Sorry, I am not sure posting ebay links is allowed. If it is not, mods please delete.

Nothing wrong with used but stay away from applecart. This seller is notorious, just do a search on this forum.

Is applecart really that bad? I don't remember reading any first hand compaints about his/her bikes. (It's certainly possible that I've forgotten.)

How's this for a first hand complaint?

Or there's the one where he talks about a bike "with a minor shunt in the frame" or the fact that the guy charges $35 to box a bike which you cannot get away from. And of course all his bikes are just old road bikes with the rear dished to center and the cluster replaced with a track cog and BB lock ring. Thanks but no thanks. For $50 I can go find that same Schwinn Varsity and get my own trashy stamped cog and BB lock ring.

Caveat emptor is the catchphrase.

You can do much better for yourself buying an old 80s roadbike from a pawnshop, where due to it's age and that they are snapped up and resold to pawnshops by junk dealers the bike probably isn't stolen. (new [real] bike at a pawn shop? dont buy unless stolen goods are what you prefer)
They run $20 to $35 and are in various states of dirty and disrepair, but you can find one you like, in person, buy it and spend a hundred bucks on the budget stuff this knob buys bulk (cheap cogs & lockrings) and redish it yourself or at your LBS. Several of his customers have complained about the poor sad work he does redishing it.

The guy is a glorified junk dealer cashing in on a trend. It's a fine trend, find yourself a fixie cause you'll enjoy it, but this fellow is just a scrapyard dog.

I believe rusholme can give you a firsthand account of a negative experience, maybe she'll post it here, or PM her.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't tying to side with applecart. I just wanted to make sure that he didn't get smeared for no good reason. Looks like there's good reason.

To me, a boxing fee is a tip off that a seller is a pain in the ass, no matter the product. Anytime I see anything with a boxing fee on ebay, I run.

Thanks for the clarification.

The bike is a piece of old layed back junk with big soft wheels, also have a good look at those forks they dont seem to follow the line of the head tube.
