Eh... maybe it's not cheap compared to big box store bikes, "lifestyle accessory" fixed gears from Bigshot or Republic, or bikesdirect, but it's definitely at the low end of the spectrum.
I mean, is it as cheap as ramen noodles or my advice? Of course not, but these things are relative, my dude.

It is a cheap bike with cheap components. The word premium doesn't mean it will always be a high end quality item. Premium Feces sure is premium but it is still in the end feces. Pure Fix doesn't make high end bikes they make cheap bikes for cheap people and if you truly believe it is not cheap than you need to do more personal off the forum research into bikes and what goes into them and what quality components are. If it says Shimano Tourney, Hi Ten Steel, Neco, CST, Some random Chinese name you have never seen or heard of and stuff like that chances are you have found crap. Also if they don't name the components like Cane Creek 40 series headset or Ritchey WCS 100mm +/-6 stem you might also have crap but sometimes they do name components that are on the lower end. Saying KMC Chain means nothing because they literally have several levels of fixed gear chains and the lowest end one isn't necessarily going to be of great quality and a company like Pure Fix isn't going to use the X1 chain. 4130 Chromoly is pretty common these days and doesn't refer to any quality markings just a demarcation that it is chromium-molybdenum with around 30% carbon on the SAE scale (I could be wrong but I believe that is how it works). It still could be a cheaper variant.
Also typically if you are still seeing a quill stem these days it is a decent sign you are looking on the lower quality scale, not always but for the most part threadless headsets are the standard now and some are still clinging to threaded stuff because it is cheaper or they are trying to give it a vintage aesthetic because "those old bikes look cool". Nitto and Cinelli and a select few others are still making some quality quill stems but for the most part they are all cheap cheap cheap.
One final note gold anodizing doesn't mean it is a quality part either. It is a color used to evoke quality and luxury but doesn't always make it so. It can look nice on a bike if done tastefully but really it only looks the best when it is real gold on say a Campagnolo 50th Anniversary gruppo but that is quality you will never understand.

I like those responses because even if _addict doesn't care someone else might read it and get some good info. That is the important part because a lot of folks might read this sort of thing because they are looking at the bike or looking to upgrade or something.

Thank you *takes bow* I am sure you are right though and my answer would be KMC X1 (at least for fixed/SS use) and Chris King 2nut or Gripnut or Cane Creek 110 Classic for modern sealed cartridge stuff.

Maybe they are worth their price, but my experience has been so bad I will never own another.

Have you had good luck with the Chris King Gripnut? My custom TiCycles fix gear was delivered with one. I rode it 8000 miles and never got more than 400 between adjusts and 200 of really good adjustment. And it made no difference who did the work other than poor work was worse. Several of Portland's best mechanics. The Chris King factory. I finally took it off and replaced it with Tange. That was a bit of a pain because the King stack was between the Tange models so I"ve been riding a mix and match HS, but except for that , the Tange's been a joy. Yes, at 8000 miles it was starting to index. It's on bigger balls and I and bracing myself to go out and fork over the big $30 for the next 8000 miles.
Maybe they are worth their price, but my experience has been so bad I will never own another.

Kornfeld was the truth, son. And let's not forget Smoove B, Jean Teasdale, and Jackie Harvey. Godda** murderers row of editorial talent at T. Herman Zweibel's fine publication.

I think I agree, depending on what you're considering "golden-era" for the Onion. To me, that's the Clinton admin through the first half of the Bush 43 regime. They did some incredible work in that time, from "Christ Returns to NBA" to "Our Long National Nightmare of Peace and Prosperity is Finally Over". My favorite, for reasons I'll never be able to explain, was the one below, that I proudly cut out of the paper and kept pinned to my cubicle wall at my first "real" job:

Of course now that I'm on the spot I can't think of all time favorites but things like "Study shows that drinking dog pee is good for you, announce giggling scientists" used to have me laughing in my office chair.
I don't have specific dates for "golden era" but I'd just loosely define it as being from when I first discovered it in the late 90s to some time in the last 10 years. It still has some pretty solid stuff even now but definitely has lost something since it became part of the Gawker sites.
It's aged better than this thread, at any rate.

LOL my wife and I send that to each other frequently for some reason.

And yeah, it's definitely lost something since Gawker took it over. But at least that acquisition kept the them going.
I'll always have a special place in my heart for the pre-internet years of the Onion. Once upon a time, the best way to cap off a day was getting my friends together in a booth at the local Perkins, drinking bad coffee, chain smoking, and giggling our stoned asses off while we read the latest Onion articles out loud to the room. Good times.
