Are Mavic Ellipse wheelsets suitable on the road?
Hi I am new at this forum and practically everything else xD. I'm going to build my first fixed gear bike and
I'm not an expert and I want to know if the mavic ellipse wheelset are good with the cinelli parallax frame.
If not, what are better alternatives?
Thanks in advance!

Don't know the specifics beyond that I've been rocking mine on a Big Block pretty hard in the city for 5+ years and they've been solid as I could ask for.

As a new rider you may want to consider a complete bike before building one. Use that as a guinea pig, and once you're a little more comfortable with diddling and doodling your bike you can move to a full build.

If you're wondering whether the sidewalls are machined thus permitting use of a brake, they are, but are black and will develop a ring at the contact point…..not that it matters though. I can't speak personally for their durability, but I've ridden with a friend who has had zero problems with his over a couple of seasons. They seem like a pretty good bang for the buck, but I roll my own anyway.

Aaah thanks for all the replies! That really helps!
Hahaha I did'nt know what a CAT 6 meant, but I looked it up
But no it's not like that, I want to take it seriously and I asked a friend who has a crew and
is more experienced than I am and he told me that if I wanted a good frame I should buy the Cinelli frame and
the mavic ellipse wheelset and he also advised me a sram omnium crankset. Look it's not like I have a lot of money to spend
but I wanted to build a good fixed bike for 2 years now, so I saved up and bought the cinelli parallax. I also want to compete in races,
so it's not like I didn't think it over. I am still saving up for the wheelset now, but in a month or so I'll be finished.
I was a bit nervous about mavic wheelset when that same friend told me he heard some bad things about the mavic ellipse on the road, so I thought
this forum was perfect for asking these things.
I'm from The Netherlands btw so If my english isn't that good, you'll know why
Thanks!

Anybody who makes snarky/troll comments about a guy that saved up for 2 years to build himself a really nice bike has no heart. Members here should be falling over ourselves to help him...

The Cinelli Parallax is a basic aluminum frame with track racing geometry. There is nothing special about that frame other than the unique paint job. You are paying $1000 for a frame that is worth about $600.
Mavic Ellipse is overkill for a basic street bike. $200 wheels work just as well.
It's like if you asked your friend, "Hey, I'm getting into basketball. What shoes should I get?" and he sends you off to buy some $250 LeBrons when some $100 shoes would work just as well and look nice, too.
