Fixie For Commuting

I haven't seen many fixed gear set up as a commuter bike. (Rack, fenders, lights etc.) Has anyone tried this way and if so, how did it turn out?

Here are 46 pages of them: http://www.bikeforums.net/singlespee...ownies-46.html

a good portion of the fg bikes posted in here have fenders and lights, racks not so much

they turn out exactly the same way as a "regular" commuting bike turns out

I've found that most bikes made as single speed bikes, don't have rack and fender mounts.

Though the Fuji Declaration is made of hi-tensile steel, it does have rack and fender mounts.

Of course, many more conversions will have both rack and fender mounts.

Plenty of SSFG bikes have fender and rack mounts. It's just that most people don't bother to use them.

Well, track bikes don't have ability for any of that stuff, but the FG bikes that are more utilitarian do. I have racks and fenders on my bike. I love commuting on it.

It could just be that you haven't seen many IRL due to your location...

Fenders are off until the drought is over.

So next year if we're lucky you'll put them back on?

In addition to being a pretty capable SSCX race bike, makes for a very commutable bike. It has bosses for racks and fenders.

Yeah, and they're BLACK.

For fenders, p-clamps are fine, but not so for racks as the bottom main supports.

I commute on my fixie everyday. I have Serfas Thunderolt lights on the front and back. I use a messenger bag so no rack and I live in southern california so no need for fenders

Black you say? Do they have mudguards? And if so what color are they? I really do like murder bikes though.. well tasteful ones like yours anyhow.

On a more serious note.. I was more commenting on our lack of water than anything. I would say rain, but as you know we've been getting some and it tends to come down in buckets.... In Sonoma County it's still sitting at a bit less then half the average seasonal rainfall.

My main commuter has rack and fenders, and dynohub with b+m cyo front light.I can`t take a picure of the moment.

good point. I use them on a couple of bikes for the top of the rack at least. I wouldn't use them for the bottom though. For that, I build something to go off of the axle.

Bikes that are not designed for racks tend to handle pretty poorly with racks put on them. A race bike is going to have pretty lively handling, and putting racks and weight on the rear makes them a handful. A bike that is designed for racks (and has mounting points) is much, much easier to ride carrying a load.
