Is there something in between?

What frameset would have a feel somewhere between the raw, taint punishing aggression of my Fuji and the springy, loafy ride of my Cross Check?

I love the handling and acceleration of the Fuji, but it really pounds my legs and bum. My Cross Check, by comparison, has a very smooth ride, but it feels like I'm pedaling through mud. :-/

I ride mostly around town, which means a lot of stop-and-go. Bonus points if I can put fenders on it.

All-City Big Block.

LOL. Taint Punisher actually sounds like a bike Surly would sell.

How much of a weight difference would there be for a full build of those?

My Fuji weighs about 17.8lbs stock, and a bit more with brakes and lights and such. My Surly… hasn't been weighed, but it is definitely heavier which, I believe, contributes to its loafy ride quality. (Also, the steel feels noticeably springy after riding around on the aluminium Fuji)

I would go with either All city big block, Surly Steamroller or a Kilo WT.

I agree, pretty smooth. I like mine. However do to my Steamroller envy I'm recommending that.

Complete bike weight: 23-24lbs

Whoa :(

Scrodzilla 05-14-14 12:55 PM

It's the wheels. A 55cm Eastside frame only weighs 5 lbs.

Get a custom frame made. Solves all sorts of issues and unless you're someone who changes bikes every year or so, a surprisingly cheap option because a bike that works properly will be ridden for decades (it's the initial purchase that hurts).
