boston peeps

how many of you guys are in the boston area? it would be cood to get together and go for a group ride and cause some mayhem.

BostonFixed 03-23-05 10:26 PM

There are some group rides from time to time, they usually end up with food. Some rides have ended up with pie, bbq, or breakfast.
Here are some past rides:

Here was last week's pie ride, (I was not there..):

Alexi was wanting to do another redbones ride soon, maybe this weekend sometime..

Here is the link to alexi's post about a possible redbones bbq ride this week sometime:

And if by mayhem, you mean ride bikes fast through the city, then yes, I do cause mayhem, and yes, I'd be down to cause some mayhem.

slangjang 03-23-05 10:40 PM

that sounds lovely. as for snow riding, i took a nast spill two weeks ago when i rode over a patch of snow on my lagnster and to my suprise there was a sewer grate under it and my front tire got stuck and i fliped head first over teh handle bars into a giant puddle in front of berklee. i was embarassed but my bike was ok, thats all i cared about.

hoist_that_rag 03-24-05 06:56 PM

i'm in the neighborhood, and i'll probably be up for it when it doesn't drop below 40 at night anymore. i can ride in the cold at 7:30 am and all day, but for some reason i just can't produce enough body heat at night, even with all these fancy clothes.
or maybe i'm just getting old. are you guys college-age?

bostontrevor 03-24-05 07:25 PM

If I was a graduate student or a real slacker undergrad, I suppose. ;)

I'm a sweater though. I sweat. That's my thing, it's what I do.

Alexi 03-24-05 09:47 PM

i can do the cold but i'm dumb, i'm also a 7 year art student (26 in 3 months as of today)

jinx_removing 03-25-05 06:55 AM

Real slacker undergrad here. I'm 26. :D

bostontrevor 03-25-05 08:33 AM

Nice! But I've got a friend who has you beat, I think.. ;)

Ya Tu Sabes 03-25-05 09:53 AM

Though I long constantly for the slacker student lifestyle, I'm a 27-year-old lawyer with a 10-month-old child (which explains why I never seem to be able to make it to the group rides: my graduate student wife needs weekends to do her graduate student stuff, so I chill with the youngster; but maybe I'll make it tomorrow...).

misterherman 03-25-05 02:30 PM

what are we doing when?

bostontrevor 03-25-05 02:38 PM

We're meeting at 3pm, Copley Square. Having assembled, we will cruise up to 908 Mass Ave in Arlington where we will find Blue Ribbon Barbecue. It is a 7.6 mile ride straight up Mass Ave, more if we dally.

We will then feast on tasty meats and unmeats for those not so inclined. We will proceed back down Mass Ave at a distinctly lesser pace, vomiting for aerodynamic improvement as necessary.

slangjang 03-25-05 02:45 PM

oh poo, im home for easter in pa. sorry i missed the ride that i asked about. ha. ill catch the next one. that blue ribbon bbq sounds awsome! i love meat.

misterherman 03-25-05 04:02 PM

is this tomorrow or sunday?

bostontrevor 03-25-05 04:24 PM

Tomorrow. Saturday.

tylersage 03-25-05 05:37 PM

howmany people show up to these things? ill prolly be bored tomorrow and show up, ive never gone on a group ride before.

bostontrevor 03-25-05 06:58 PM

It depends. To date it's been between 1 and 5. It sounds like a lot of people are interested in tomorrow, so we'll see. Don't worry, it's nothing but a good time. It's a nice little non-competitive group ride.

hammye 03-26-05 07:32 AM

Non-competitive untill one of you sees a group of 1970's Italian racers out and decide to catch up to them. Thats when one of them pulls out his frame pump and sticks it between your spokes. Those bastards.

misterherman 03-26-05 08:36 AM

thats what you get for riding a masi...well count one less since Im stuck at work today.

Oh yeah, well there was that one time.

But ultimately we showed them.

misterherman 03-26-05 09:13 AM

anyone up for a ride tomorrow?

Ya Tu Sabes 03-26-05 09:22 AM

Since it looks as though fatherly duties will make it impossible for me to show up today (and tomorrow's supposed to be warmer anyway), I could be down for a ride tomorrow.

bostontrevor 03-26-05 09:30 AM

I might be up. Err. Down. Some direction, anyhow.

I think I have to take care of some stuff in themorning/early afternoon, but if we wanted to do another tea-time pie ride we could do that. Maybe put in a little more distance before settling down at the pie place.

edit: to be clear, I will still be riding today for sure, and maybe tomorrow as well.

bostontrevor 03-26-05 01:04 PM

Ok, I'm leaving soon. Gonna hit up the record store before I go to Copley, but I'll be there. Don't leave without me, *******s!

Ya Tu Sabes 03-26-05 05:22 PM

Word - let's do this Sunday business. I actually saw you suckas picking your way through traffic on Newbury (or some other group of guys on fixies including one on a rattle-can orange rig), and longed for a fleeter mobile than the carriage I was pushing. So a ride tomorrow when I can actually do it is a must. Maybe another 3:00 downtown rendezvous, and a very circuitous route to the pie place?

BostonFixed 03-26-05 05:24 PM

Yea that was us on newbury. You should have holla'd at us.
