ive run gatorskins on my bike for years. ride great, great in the wet once broken it, good training tire with low rolling resistance, but tough as nails. ive only recently gotten a flat with my front tire on a 3 year old gatorskin.

ive previously run vittoria tires, randonneur in back, rubino pro in front. i really like the rubinos, run a little bigger than the gatorskins though. look nice as well.

the randonneurs are awesome for skidding, nice and buttery, good tire to start out with if your learning, but ride like crap. alright for wet crappy streets like San Francisco in the winter, as long as you arent in a hurry. ive done 40+ rides on them, crap.

gatorskins are the way to go for everyday urban riding, but I would recommend Rubino Pros just as much.

I can't tell a difference between folding and non-folding tyres. Now, they just have to stock them.

What 5% coupon??

BTW also a good deal from PBK is the Conti GP4000s. I love them. Light, fast, affordable (only on PBK) and very puncture resistant. They come in 25mm, too. I use them now that michelin krylions are hard to find.

cosign. . . I've been running my Gatorskin tubs thru glass, rocks, branches, you name it and it still runs well.

I use a gatorskin on rear, and ultra sport in front.

Yes, I use a high-mileage puncture resistant tire in the rear, such as a Gatorskin or Michelin Krylion carbon, and use a thinner, lighter, better rolling race tire up front. The front tire gets less flats and wears much more slowly, so why not? Currently I'm using a MIchelin Pro 3 Race up front, but if you want to stick with Continental tires, there are plenty of options that will match a gatorskin in the rear, such as a GP 4000 or GP 4 Season.

25x700c Michelin Orium in the front and a 25x700c Ultra Gatorskin in the rear. I don't see the need for a front Gatorskin.

pbk let people over order, and their stock is negative. i really hope you bastages didnt steal my tires!

My LBS sells Gatorskins for $55. I told the guy that he was crazy, and he sold me one for $30. I only have one on the rear...700x25... and i have the 26x1 1/8" version on my other bike.

They're solid tires, no complaints.

You still got screwed. Considering the prices you can find online, especially PBK, I wonder why anyone buys tires at LBS. Whenever I look at tires at my LBS, I almost fall over laughing at the price tag. You want to know how to buy tires? (1) avoid the LBS, (2) don't wait until your tire is toast before buying more, and (3) when you find an unbeatable internet deal, stock up.

beethaniel 12-24-08 05:20 PM

yeah, Gatorskins are something like 30-35 around these parts
