pants keep ripping
You guys have any tips? I've gone through like 4 pairs of pants. it's always right in the crotch.
|
Bibs.

Ummm... looser pants? I've never had that happen, have to imagine what you're wearing is too snug to move freely in.
Or there's a large, jagged piece of metal sticking up out of your saddle. I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt though, and assume you would have noticed that. |

I think you need to tell us what you're wearing. If you're wearing the padded pants that 'real cyclists' seem to deem necessary (because the industry only makes saddles that require them), I have no sympathy for you. If you've got a sensible saddle, such as a Brooks, and wearing normal clothes, maybe we can help.
Personally, I've used the same pair of running shorts for the last eight years and they're still going strong. I might even wash them this year. |
Nike SB pants are my new favorite: Nike Store. Skateboarding Pants
98% Cotton and 2% Spandex. They feel like a lightweight canvas. They aren't as constricting as jeans. No need to iron them. I wear them to work. They are designed for skateboarding (lots of leg activity). The Spandex allows them to stretch and return as opposed to stretch and not return or stretch and blow like jeans do. At $68, They cost a bit more than my Levis 559 (which I usually get for $40 at Macy's), but I think they are worth it. They are 1/2 the price of SWRV linked above. We'll see how long they last. |
I like them Carleton. I'm sure the availability and cost will be stupid here in Oz but it's something to look for. I typically wear shorts because I sweat so much but these may well be worth having as an option. Thanks for the suggestion.

Dickies makes a slim-fitting pant that stretches too. I picked up a few pair for around 35 bucks each a while back and really like riding in them (when the weather in SD is actually cool enough to wear long pants, anyhow).

Jeans only last me a good 6-8 months before they give way but buy all your crap secondhand(Hipsters don't like skate jeans in PDX so I usually can find pairs for 20~ bucks) or sometimes Ross will get a shipment in of skate gear and it's not terribly pricey. |

My thighs are 29" and I wear 38" waist pants, and the SB pants that I linked above are fine. |
