http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdn...Yard-Dog-2.jpg All City JYD Non-suspension corrected, rim brakes only, clearance for 29x2.35 They only made 150 frame set. It looks interesting but I'm not sure what to think of it as a mountain bike or street bike. Looks cool though |

"The JYD is a throwback to our childhood days when you only had one bike and you rode it everywhere." It looks amazing. I'd love to bomb around on something like that. |
I like it. Similar to an On One Pompino, but with enough differences to make it pretty unique.
Seems like it would be a great all-conditions city bike. |
Something like this is exactly why I want to build up a mid-school 24" bmx frame. Similar idea, but with smaller wheels and more relaxed geometry compared to today's BMX frames. There's a Redline Proline 24 for sale near me for $125 but I just don't have the cash right now.
Edit: JYD looks awesome. I bet demand far outstrips supply. My kind of people: Q: I see you have BMX cranks on it, is it a big BMX bike? A; No. It 's not intended for pegs or freestyle. The reason this build has BMX cranks is because Profile cranks are awesome,...... |
saw this on bikerumor the other day...my first thought was "wow. all city made a karate monkey."
there's no real reason to buy this over a karate monkey (except for the km being disc-only now). karate monkey has horiz dropouts w/ a hanger, dual cage mounts, clearance for 29x2.55".... that being said, it is a pretty neat bike....:thumb: |

KM also has rack mounts. What I dislike the most about the KM is the horizontal dropouts. It really should have sliding dropouts to make the disc brake and chain tension adjustments play nice with each other.
|
I see wheelies, stoppies, curb shots, and general hooligan shenanigans as it's primary functions. Traveling from point A to point B is just a bonus feature. I'd like one in a less mature color scheme please. :)

And suddenly there's a serious conflict of interests for my next bike.
Thanks @hairnet They should've added a RD hanger though. Disc brake tabs wouldn't hurt either :D |

That's like saying there's no reason to buy (insert track bike name here) over a Kilo TT.
There's nothing wrong with having options. i agreed that it's a cool bike...options are awesome....and once these 150 are sold out, the other people can buy a km or something else. |

Love the frame, hate the fork. Also the colorscheme just doesn't have the radness the junk yard dog has.
'Le sigh have you seen the KM spray tan up close tho? it's a clear/orangey powdercoat...it's pretty great also. the all city fork>surly fork |

I like it; good looking bike and would make a really fun city bike.

Not a fan of either.

Not sure why a KM is being brought up. While I love the utilitarian aspects of the KM, the All City looks so much better. Not only that, there is (what I believe) a significant difference. Steeper angles and much tighter wheelbase will mean more flickability (maybe twitchy??). No BS oversized HT, non-suspension corrected geo--great package, IMO. Fatter tire clearance is great, but don't know of any 29x2.55 tires being produced today. I do hope the front clears 2.4's, though.
Nothing wrong with the KM, as I've owned two. But the JYD speaks to me. |

the JYD reminds me of an '87 Haro Master, as least as far as the colors go. that's high praise.

karate monkey is designed to be an all-around bike. based on your equipment and component selection you could commute to work, you could shred trails with your bros, or you could do both. you could race or you could pull a child carrier. singlespeed or geared. put a squish fork. whatever.
the all-city JYD is a single configuration bike[flat bar, singlespeed] for riding to the party when you are already half-lit, ghostriding into garbage cans and attempting to ride the slide at the park playstructure. imho you could NEED a karate monkey but only ever WANT a JYD. the sentiment is legit tho. im sure all of us have felt this way about a bike we have/had. all-city just did a good job of putting together a bike that falls within most of our definition for 'kid fun bike' i WANT one. doesnt mean i'll buy tho. |
