2012+ specialized langster weight (base model)
 

Hi guys
Simple question. Can't find it anywhere after googling for almost a whole day. If anyone has one, can they weigh it for me?

Will decide between this and the felt tk3 (17.5lbs) tommorow.
Both bikes, no one has in stock in Ottawa Canada nor can I get it up here.

I may get bashed but I'm a bit of a weighweenie since my road bikes weigh 14.5 and 15.5 lbs.

Like I said in your other thread, my complete stock 2013 Langster Pro 52cm weigh 16.8lbs. You should mention which Langster model you're looking for.

i want to say my boss' langster pro is around 17lbs but he has a brooks saddle and gator skins on it.

We're all trying to work out why you imagine it's important?

weight on street bikes from what i can tell is pretty much a bragging right. Because if you ride a 30lb bike but are the fastest rider out there then what does it matter?

I knew this would happen just from seeing other posts about weight and lurking for a while.

God forbid we weigh our bikes. I'd like to think bike and frame tech has evolved past the point where people don't have to ride 25lb steel vintage bikes anymore.

Mate, you are not going to notice a pound or two. It's all in your head and no longer in your wallet. Do you honestly believe you get snappier acceleration if your water bottle is empty as opposed to full?

If you want sharp handling and snappy acceleration, put some money into buying a good quality track frame and then put good quality components on the thing. Buy quality and the weight becomes irrelevant because the acceleration and handling is affected far more by build quality, design, material quality and components.

Take the gears off your 14.5lb road bike and wallah, you have a 14lb fixed gear. Sweet hu

Carbon fixed/ss commuter would be too crazy.
The frame on that bike is sub 900g .

I'm just gonna buy a langster cause it has a flip flop hub and ride the crap out of it in all weather conditions.

Learned today that the tk3 only has a fixed/fixed hub.

fwiw, in most cases (probably all, but I'm hedging b/c I'm not 100% certain) you can put a freewheel on threads designed for a fixed cog. it just doesn't work the other way around.

Ok that changes everything. I'm gonna research. This is all new to me.
If someone who's done it before can confirm, that would be great.

I am pretty sick of your lunacy for a weightweenie ss bike but I will tell you that it is stupid to even consider that Felt as a singlespeed, especially as my money is on it not being drilled for a rear brake...

Sorry for making you sick but thanks to you, I googled it and it does sound like a bad idea to run ss with only a front brake.

I'm getting the langster, won't upgrade it, and just ride the crap out of it. Fixed at first but if my knees start to hurt again.... I'll go to ss mode.

If it weighs under 20, with brakes, I'll be happy.

Yeah, this forum makes you pissy after a while. True story... the real reason Anakin went to the dark side wasn't what the movies would have you believe, but because some punk ass noob padawans kept bugging him about whether they should get a PureFix or a State, and somehow couldn't understand that all cheap crappy bikes are pretty much the same - cheap and crappy. And all they really cared about was which bike was lightest, could skid better, and had the deepest v's. And they said "fixie" all the time. That **** gets old. Much like the dozens of threads started because people obsess over every ounce or pound, as if it really matters.

Seriously though, people here are cool, but a lot are tired of the same old questions over and over. Stick around here long enough and you will be too. For now, htfu ;)

Anyway, the Langster is a solid choice. Get it, ride the **** out of it, post some cool pics as you personalize it, and all will be good. Have fun, man... that's the whole point, anyway.

My '07 Langster is/was about 17lbs or so. Though I did some updating to it and I guess I should reweigh it when I get the chance as it could be a touch lighter.

Anywho any manufacturer that tells you the weight of their bike is lying to an extent. With the various manufacturing tolerances and different sized frames weighing different amounts and all of that other stuff, weight is usually never correct. Sometimes they are close but all of the prior text still applies.

I like my Langster, the modifications I and the previous owner made have made it a good solid commuter and a fun to ride fixed gear which is what I wanted. No it is not my dream bike and not even close but for it's reasonable price, decent drivetrain and pretty good ride, it is well worth it.

Just curious, what was involved going from road bike to that. Did you just have to throw on a set of ENO hubbed wheels and just left your crank alone?
