2 De Bernardi frame questions...
I have been searching, but cannot figure out a seat post diameter, or the threading on the BB shell...I am guessing 27.2 and Italian? Do I win the washer and dryer?

Some have said that the De Ber's came with English threading in the later versions. But, as [165] suggests, call to be sure.

English threaded BB on my DeBernardi. And a 27.2. Bought it new last summer.

looks like I should hold off finding a set of Italian cups for my campy BB till I make some calls. I will update on the persuasion of my...ahem, cups.

Can't you just look at the threads and tell?
Better yet, grab a bolt laying around with something around 24 tpi, lay it against the threading in the BB, and lightly turn it righty-tighty. If it gently and smoothly moves inward, English threading. If it just clicks, rubs, or doesn't go anywhere, Italian. Just a thought. |
sorry...I realized I failed to mention the frame was on its way, not in front of me.
But, I received the frame from the santa in brown today...and the BB (on this new frame anyway) is indeed italian thread. Sent it off for new paint so I will post picks in @ week or so. If anyone has any italian cups for a campy BB (record or chorus) lemme know, I can send jingle your way...or a set of english cups. |
Two questions of jinx4:
1) will the fork accept a brake; and, 2) to whom did he send it for paint? I like that DeBernardi frame for aesthetics alone. It looks like a bike, to me. |
Ken - the DeBenardi does accept a front brake.
Both 165 and skit have 'em (the deber twins I like to call them when they ride together) and they are nice frames indeed. The paint is a little flaky (chips easily) but good enough I suppose. An eventual powdercoat would do a great job. Jinx - I'd love to see it once it's done. |

KEN: as said, it is drilled for front and rear brakes. I sent the frame to be powder coated by a place here in Denver called "Blast Tech". They bead blast the frame then send it to colorado springs to be painted by T'aint Paint. Cost is only about $70 total with a one week turnaround. Its not show quality, but pretty damn nice for the money. Durable too.
I picked up the frame/fork through World Class Cycles via the phone. I actually had a GREAT experience with this shop. After calling 25 local shops, and 15 out of state with not 1 return/follow up call, I found World Class in New York. He called me back in 15 minutes, got my info and had the frame and fork in my hands 4 days later for a total of $475. I wanted to keep my business in CO preferrably a mom n' pop shop...but they are apparently too busy griping about eBay, big chain stores, and how "the little guy is suffering" to pick up the phone and order a frame. My first impression of the quality on the frame is at least up to par, even if the paint isn't. Not uncommon for Italian frames is would seem. Having built frames for a living, I was impressed with the workmanship despite the low cost. The frame measured perfectly straight on a 600lb solid marble alignment table with digital calipers. All the brazing looked even and solid, and it came with a campy pinch bolt in the seat tube. nice. Its not a boutique frame, and maybe wont grab the oohs and aahs of a cinelli or gan...or my dream of a jonny cycles frame...but for a daily ride I feel super lucky and happy with the purchase. We hit 70+ deg today...a week is going to be torture. stay tuned for post paint pics. |
