Getting the Gold off a (San Marco) Rolls

I just got a San Marco Rolls seat from Nashbar and didn't realize it had a cheesy gold colored logo and gold seat rails on it. Is there any way to remove the gold from it, sort of scaping it off.

Looks like a nice seat and can't wait to check it out but that gold is hideous. Looks like one of those Cadillacs from the '80's with a fake canvas top and tacky gold plastic all over it.

yeah send it over to mikorp. He'll make a good home for it, I have heard through the old grapevine that he loves all things golden.

a little bit of tacky, a little bling...

that's partly what makes them unique... embrace it... enjoy it's perversity...

I have the same saddles (made me cringe a bit as well)... but... I'm going to get a cheapie alum stem gold anodized to match...

probably no practical way to remove the "gold plating" w/o ruining the saddle.

be creative, make it work for you.

I bet you could carefully take some steel wool or a dremel with a metal brush to it. Probably be a lot of work, but I bet you'd get the results you are looking for.

I second the steel wool.

I think it was Terror in Pink that recommended oven cleaner. It does wonders for removing cheap anodizing.

They are $30 right now for a black or a yellow one.

Mine was $10 for the white + bling about a month ago but I'm afraid those are long gone. They were old stock and Nashbar was blowing them out because they supposedly had some discoloration on the white leather. Looks nice on an 80's bike. I wish I had bought a couple more.

acetone or paint stripper takes it off without changing the surface.
