kilo help
I bought a kilo tt and after a few rides and adjustments nothing but problems.
It seems almost every bolt strips. I stripped the steam bolts and ordered a new stem. The new stem didn't fit so now I am awaiting an ordered shim.
My main problem is a crank stripped also. I feel depressed as I have put out $400+ on this bike and after about 20 miles it is failing apart.
I wasn't sure what to do with the cranks so put out another $140 on sram 300 courier and I am not sure if they will fit or if I can install them. I just want to get this bike on the road and don't know if I should cut my loses and buy a brand name bike or try to salvage this kilo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Right now the cranks are off and I have the sram in a box. The handle bars are off as stem new stem doesn't fit right. Also after installing the freewheel I was getting this clicking sound before crank stripped. Seems from the begining I wanted black or white and had to get black magic do as it was the only one in store for my size. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Only problem I had with my Kilo was when I changed my chainring to a 44T. They used some heavy-duty type of thread locker on the chainring bolts. Ended up drilling the bolts out. Bet I still have some the drilled out ones lying around somewhere as evidence....

I actually laughed out loud when I saw scrods reply. Am I a bad person?
Here's a tip though, when you take your bike into the bike shop to get your new crankset installed, tip the mechanic a twenty to look over your bike and see if he can find any other damage you did to it.

Have you done any work on a bike before? Read any books on bike repair? Watched any youtube videos?
Did you per chance ride BMX before buying the Kilo? Just asking...

OP, a stripped thread can happen. Sometimes they're even due to poor quality parts. However, stripped threads to the extent that you're describing only come from heavy handedness. Either stop letting your tame gorilla work on your bike or stop drinking Red Bull before you do.

Not being a jerk here: It sounds like you either have inexperienced hands, are tightening things down way too tight, or both. I would take all of your stuff to a local bike mechanic and have him or her give it a once over and properly install your crank and stem. That will get you headed in the right direction and back on the road.
All of this stuff is learnable, but a majority of us started with a trip to a bike shop.

I'm a mechanic, bought and built up a Kilo at the shop recently. The faceplate bolts completely stripped out after two turns so that was just crappy aluminum the used for the stem. On the other hand all the other problems seem excessive. Definitely take it to your lbs, hook them up and be patient. Nothing worse than being rushed by someone. They might even let you watch and teach you some things if you ask and they're not busy.

I was a bit overwhelmed during my post however thanks for the advice. I didn't bring it to a LBS and wanted to do it myself. Also I was already putting out too much money as it was. At this time everything is sorted except the clicking noise from the freewheel cog. However the bike is on the road working just clicking. If I flip to the fixed gear it doesn't click. It worked out well cause I can feel the difference in the courier crankset. If I had to do it over I would have just bought the frame. I have the stripper model as the pro was out of stock.
I got the cranks installed after another park tool investment. It was easier then I expected. I got the stem on after ordering a 1 - 1 1/8 shim. All 26mm stems that I could find were 1 1/8. Replaced the seat clamp. I didn't have any issues stripping bolts on the replacement parts.
The brakes were installation issues got that sorted. Now just need to stop the clicking noise.
Want me to post a pic? So you guys can laugh at handy work and make sarcastic comments at my newbie mistakes. I have had bikes in the past but that was over 20 years ago.

Did you size yourself for the bike too?
Why is your seatpost slammed all the way down?
Are your rear brake pads on their way to you?

I went with 53 and its a little big. My toes touch the ground. I broke the bolts on the pads. I got a pair of koolstop on front and they are fine. I still need to pickup a pair of pads for the back. I am thinking about taking the back off as the front stops pretty good even at higher speeds.
