Spinergy Question

I'm in the upgrading mood and I'm thinking about having some work done on my Spinergy rear. Here's the question: Do I get a new Shimano freehub body OR do I grab a Surly Fixxer and thread on a freewheel (or save up and buy some pink Phils)?

I have heard that if you buy pink phils elves come into your house at night and tune your bicycle while you sleep.

You may laugh, but it's true.

Pink phils!

hella 04-04-05 11:46 PM

Why must you feed that Pink Phil monkey that haunts me so?

Shiznaz 04-04-05 11:48 PM

Did somebody mention pink Phils?

pitboss 04-05-05 04:38 AM

Well, (pink phils) You should really consider the amount of money (pink phils) that you are willing to spend (pink phils) on this whole project (pink phils) and then gor from there. If money is not a concern (pink phils) then you should get something (pink phils) that will fit your style (pink phils)and level of form/function/desire (pink phils). And the thing about the elves (pink phils) is true (pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils)(pink phils).

Form over function?

I had a Spinergy track wheel. I sold it. 2 reasons. It was a tubular and not good for skidding (and I quit track racing). And while somewhat aero, the thing was heavy as a bag of liposuctioned fat off of somebody who really, really really likes pork chops. But if you like it, fix it.

A reminder, that monkey is back. Marcus still has 'em. On that pearl white Croll? dead sexy.

How much do they run?

Fixxxed/Fixxxed? Or Fixed/Free?

raygunner 04-05-05 12:58 PM

Absntr, did you just happen to have a pic of them laying around?

auk 04-05-05 01:00 PM

I think the price was $279ish and single fixed. He had a 32h and a 28h set when I talked with him a few weeks ago.

absntr 04-05-05 01:09 PM

That is the exact pair. I do indeed have that photo laying around - I had discussed getting those a while back with Marcus - he was charging around $350 for the pair but the price might have gone down since as mentioned by auk. They are indeed single fixed.

flythebike - My Rex-X is a clincher and I don't skid, hence my question about freehubs/freewheels, which everyone seems to have passed over in favor of tempting me with talk of Pink Phils. Can't say I didn't ask for it though. That having been said, I think the Rev-X looks jawesome but it's really flexy, it's got a casette hub, and I don't know how to service it myself.

absntr- You are evil.

Anyhow, here's my plan: I've got a Campy Record High-Flant front. I was going to grab some Grade 25 / Dura-Ace bearings and some Phil Wood grease and repack that thing or take it into Marcus and have him do the same. Then, I was going to have Marcus attempt to do the same for the Rev-X (not sure if he knows how to do this but I think it's a safe assumption to make). I was also going to replace the freehub body with a new Ultegra or Dura-Ace one, but I wasn't sure if it might be a better idea to get the Surly Fixxer and throw on a decent freewheel. The idea being that all of this work would come out to well under the 170+ cost of a single Phil hub. Thus, I was wondering about the relative merits of freehub w/spacers vs. freewheel.

Plus, is that pink rear spaced for a road frame?
