A death defying exploit no doubt.
For the purpose of the conversation in this thread:
A) Did you do any "Skidding w.out foot retention"?
And also:
2) Was it Hilly?
iii) Did you get a pack of Smokes & a 6 of PBRs?

I just use MKS cages which were about 32 bucks I think and those work out great for me

Still kicking.
That being said, skidding has a place and if you need to know how to skid without foot retention; it will likely be in your best interest to get some form of foot retention.

Why anyone would ever suggest its ok to ride fixed gear without some kind of foot retention is beyond me and is definitely not someone id take advice from. Even with brakes its dangerous.

I recommend clipless pedals and front and rear brakes. It's safer and you can ride faster than brakeless.
OP, you can't think too much about the skid, you have to just commit to doing it. Stand up, lean forward and lock the cranks. Don't think, just DO IT! Brakes will definitely make it easier to do and once you get the hang of it, you can reduce/stop using the brakes.
You can also lower your gear inches to make it a lot easier to skid; just until you get the hang of it. Put a 20T cog on the back and you'll be skidding in no time.
After wearing out tires way faster than you anticipated may persuade you to skid less often and you'll appreciate having brakes.

wtf are you talking about? How is it different than riding a normal bike without foot retention. Last I checked mountain biking is far more strenuous and hard core and half those guys just use wide spiky platforms.

Er, last I checked those mtbs have freewheels just like normal bikes, such that if your feet come off the pedals at speed, you can get them back on without getting them amputated. We're talking fixed gear here, capiche ?

You can't take your feet off the pedals and put them back on without hurting yourself? I've seen way more scraped shin from mountain bikers than I have strapless fixed gears. Seriously how often do feet come off pedals accidentally anyways? I'll go ahead and take the straps off my Pompino and let you know how it goes.

Oh c'mon man. You know you just love to post silly gifs as replies to all the idiotic posts in this subforum. Plus, they make you seem like a genius in comparison with them.

For what it's worth, I skid almost daily without foot retention. On my coaster bike.
