Is this a good deal?
Dura-Ace 36H Fix/Fix laced to an Alex DV-15 for $165?
Quick help appreciated, as I will probably be buying this on my lunch break. It's either that or another one of the QBP house Surly/MA3 wheels for $40 cheaper at another shop... Thanks! |
YES! Buy it - if you don't tell me the shop via PM - I want it
|
DV-15's aren't all that hot, but yeah. good deal.
|
I suppose I could always lace it to something else later on.
Now the real question - will my boss care if everything I print tonight has greasy fingerprints on it? :D |
Do It!!
|
I will - gotta get some stuff cleaned up at work, then I'm going...
|
you better hurry, i'm going to each shop in the twin cities one by one until i find it!
my money is on kenwood. har. |
You'd snipe a man riding a stripped hub? Bastard!
|
nah, i just like making your head do this:
"is he kidding? he's kidding....right?" muahaha. |
I just payed $160 to have my Phil hub (which I already owned ) laced to a 36h. Open Pro.

Yeah, kind of sucks. I tried putting a new cog and lockring on this morning before work, but no luck. Since the 14 won't come off, I'm kind of stuck, and I don't want to do any more of long rides in 46x14 if I can avoid it...
|
Alright, it's mine now, only I just realized it's a schrader, not a presta. Dammit. The hub feels really smooth, and it's got really sweet nuts and the locknuts are massive and serrated. I think I'm going to be happy with it. I like the fact that the rim is flat black, too.
|
schraeder/presta, it don't matter. you're now a universal acceptor of replacement tubes.
heh heh, sweet nuts..... |
hahaha... i was gonna say something about the sweet nuts too.
;x sorry. and for getting stuck cogs off. the "italian method" definately works.... i broke two chainwhips (albeit nashbar chainwhips) trying to get my 15 off, and with the torque of the chain wrapped around the cog and the bottom bracket, and the leverage of the tire, it definately worked. |
They are sweet nuts. You guys should get your minds out of the gutter.
http://www.businesscycles.com/graphics/7710hub2.jpg That's the hub - the pair are going for $187.50 at Business Cycles. I noticed looking at the price tag while cleaning the dust off (and realizing I've already dinged up the rim from carrying it on my bike) that they've had it in there since last August! Maybe it wasn't such a good deal... Or just no-one ever goes into that LBS looking for track stuff... |
nah dude - good deal. That hub will serve you will
|
Long after the price is forgotten, the joy of quality delivers.
|
Dammit, I'm going to have to build one of these for the front rim now! Baxtefer, you were wrong - these rims are AWESOME on my bike :

Anyone know anything about Suntour track cogs? That's what my 14t is, and it's way beefier than my 16t Dura-Ace. That's the 14t in the old hub shot. I want more of those cogs. Are they even in business anymore? It's too late for me to want to do any googling tonight... |
well, looks-wise they're great. quality-wise they're so-so. but maybe that's just the quality of the wheelbuild.
how was mounting that vittoria tire? In case you are ever tempted to change tires, I've found that these rims and conti tires don't play nicely.. |
Suntour went under a while ago.
|
suntour cogs come up on ebay quite often. Kwality stuff apparently.
|
Actually, that's a pic I didn't re-size and post. When I first inflated the tire, the tube stuck out under one section. I let the air out, mashed it a bit, and re-inflated and it seems fine. Hopefully I don't have to go back to the Gatorskins - the vittorias look way too nice. But they have already given me my first flat in months after only a couple weeks of riding...
I figure 36 hole will be better than 32 for going out of true. I'm not sure what else I should be looking for in quality. Either way, I'm thinking that I need black rims front and rear now, after seeing what it looks like. Gonna have to save some money up first, though. My next paycheck is hopefully going towards a geared bike for doing longer rides... Hopefully there is something worthwhile at the police auction next week. |

herent, how long were you riding on the surly hub? and was the stripping caused by some "user error" or nothing to your knowledge? just curious.
