Possible to find decent wheel set for 200? IRO?
I want a new wheelset. Mine are blue and beat up which I really don't like. Also they are not machined and I run a front brake, basically they are beat and don't look very nice so I want to upgrade and continue my eighth inch fixed project.
Any suggestions for something quality for cheap? Dont really care for colors or anything, the IRO Base wheelset is 150 which seems like a good deal.... Thanks a lot. I have the eighth inch Tessa wheelset now which isn't even produced anymore but was their lowest end set. |
My vote, $225
Wabi Cycles fixed gear wheels |

I know this might be dumb but how can I tell? They're black with red bearings

What's your rear spacing? What kind of drivetrain do you have? Are you more concerned about strength, or weight? What kind of riding are you going to do on them? I run a couple of older steel frames with 126mm rear spacing and threaded freewheels, and I just picked up these from a vendor in Illinois called Velomine for about $125 shipped. (if you buy from them direct, you can save about 10% compared to their ebay prices):

I ride for transportation and fitness. I don't know my rear spacing. I ride 48:18 fixed gear. It's a steel frame all eighth inch, origin 8 and surly components. I guess I'm most worried about weight, durability, and ride quality. 700c x 23/25 thanks

If it were me I'd just go poke around on velomine.. but then again I don't mind boat anchors (deep V's)

A bit more than your budget, at $250 off ebay, but you may want to consider these:

How come my photos are thumbnails and you have to click them to enlarge? From the looks of it I should be considering a new wheelset right? I'm leaning towards the Wabis but wish they didn't have that silver machined line on both.

I think I'm gonna get these.
Alex AT400/Novatec track wheelset | Retrogression they're 185 shipped. The Wabis are almost a half pound lighter but also are 255 shipped and I'd really like to keep it as cheap as possible. The wheelset I'm currently running has been called extremely heavy and not very smooth so im curious as to how much a difference a new wheelset will create in ride quality. |
