Where'd you get that wonderful fork in a threadless version? Or did you just cut a threaded one down....

The fork was threaded and was cut down to my size which turned into an unthreaded fork. I bought it off ebay last fall from a private seller in Germany. Here is an ebay seller with two of that same fork. Gios forks They have Gios stamps and decals if that matters. Thanks, Tshirt |
i have considered doing this my gios. (love me gios)
it has vertical dropouts though. is yours the same, and if so, how are you managing chain tension? oh yeah: love your work :-) out of interest, have you owned it since new? done many km's on it? marty |

what kind of stem is that? looks like a nitto, but it's lugged(??)

Flip the stem, lose the carbon headset spacers, get a straight blade chrome fork, and tighten your chain, and you'll be good to go!

the stem's not a 90? i'm squinting and can't quite decide.

looks like my bike (same color, rims, tires, blue wrap, saddle, etc).... but prettier and italian :) :)

It has vertical dropouts on sliding plates. Does yours have sliding plates? The plates slide only 8mm. My chain isn't very tight. The chain tension would have been perfect (for the gear ratio I choose) But I needed another hand (workstand) to hold things while I was putting the chain together. However, I now consider myself a Chaintool Master. As it is, I have a half link and a connex link. ...Anyway, I think better tension is doable. It may be wise to get an ENO or FI Bullseye hub. Yes, I've had everything from the beginning. The frame was made in the last year or two. Everything else is new or NOS. I just finised it last weekend so it hasn't been ridden much. It looks pretty, but for all I know, it could fall apart at any second. The thing I like best about Gios's is that they (usually) come in only one color, like Bianchi used to be known for. HexagonSun, You are right. It is a Nitto stem. The handlebar clamp is lugged as you said. I ordered it from the Rivendell web store for $85. |

:) Definately definately the chain needs tightenging, definately. I have another spacer that I want to paint blue, but I must have a spacer. Ouch, my back! The stem is 90 degrees, but I know what you're saying. I have a straight blade chrome Colnago fork that is sitting around not doing anythiny. This fork I choose however is Gios correct; it is the fork that they used to offer with this frame before going to carbon. ...I guess I need another frame to use with the Colnago fork. Thanks, Tshirt i know that the tubing is nickel vanadium chromium. not lugged like yours. just checked their site and they dont make it anymore but i built it up about 95/96 with campy record and chorus (8 speed). i forgot about the adjustable dropout plate. do you reckon there is enough adjustment? maybe just have to run a tensioner or get an eccentric hub. while i respaced my mountain bike to convert from 135 to 120, i am very much disinclined to respace my gios. what hub did you use? colour: someone tried to sell me a red one. well i am not _that_ crazy. go you blue boys! marty |
i am pretty sure you can still get a steel fork
look it up here: www.gios.it the way i read it, each frame has different forks - so the pista for example has a corresponding steel fork. the compact pro has either carbon or steel cheers marty |
