Bike polo SF or Oakland
So i know there was some kid on here in Berkeley that was going to do some polo but i lost contact with him. Anyone else have any mallets or want to start a polo gig? I guess i can research somewhere and try to make some. anyone in? I wouldn't mind getting it started in SF since i'll be moving there this summer.

hella and I would totally be down and might be able to hook up some balls/mallets. Have you seen the fixie handball leagues in Japan? That's my sh*t. You interested in that?

I might be down, the only thing is that I hear your bike gets pretty trashed playing polo and I only have my daily ride and my track baby, so I don't know...

I can't have a true beater, every time I start having a beater it turns into a non-beater after a month or so.

Can we maybe postpone, but keep the idea alive until we can all come up with some beaters? Terror, I have to find the videos of the guys playing handball for you, its seriously the most hardcore thing ever. Everyone on fixies, ball cant touch the ground, cant get off your bike, passing and shooting with your wheels, even the goalie has to stay up and reverse 360's all day long. It's quite a sight.

Dude that was soccer. There are vids in some thread from way back when. Anyhow, yeah, BIKE POLO SUMMER! Start it up. Get the scientists working on the beater technology immediately. Where would one obtain mallets and such? I'm assuming this would take place on a proper grass/polo/soccer field yes? Can I ride my Segway when I get tired?

They used to have bike polo in Golden Gate Park and you could sometimes borrow a beater from them to play (had mallets and balls).
However haven't seen any annoucments for a while so they probably just stopped for the winter.
Maybe worth contacting this guy:

Some of the kiddies croquet sets have plastic ends on the mallets and plastic balls. Less damaging to bikes and ankles.

we have been playing for the last 5+ months...it's awesome! i just ride my regular everyday track bike, i just play quick, solid, and smooth. plus, after 4 or five beers who give a crap about the 350 dollar rear wheel. nobody is gonna mess up the hub, thats all that matters. some folks play way rougher than others, to each their own...i find it alot easier to score and move the ball, when the rubber side is down!
and remember, the fixed gear bike crashes really well!
we are super lucky to have stumbled across a roller hockey rink that sees almost no use. we have played one day of matches at a huge parking lot, but the consensus was that the rink rocked...not sure if the rollerhockey thing is/was big out in cali, but i highly suggest looking around for the same.

Well, you guys should totally get it going. I wont be home for at least a month, but I'll practice my swing, aim and shin smashing form. I'll email one of you to see if/when it is going down or whatever.

I would be so down for playing bike polo - I heard about it a couple of years ago & think it's the coolest. I'm totally booked this weekend though.
