what tools do you carry for a daily commute
hi everyone -
so, company is moving further away which is a good thing cause 2.5 mile commute isn't as much fun as an 8 mile one. however LA streets sucks and have plenty of crappy pot holes. with that said, the first ride i took to the new office, i end up blowing out my rear tire on a pot hole (for those of you who do live on the west side of LA, the one pot hole in question is between culver and braddock on centinela - so um. . be warned). think it was a pinch flat or something. what sucks about the whole thing is that i wasn't prepared for this so instead of just being able to replace the tube and be on my way, i had to wait for someone to get me to take me to a bike store to get it done. so question is. . what are the essentials that you would carry with you on a daily commute?
so what i have now is a spare tube, co2 tank (and an inflator). i have a small hand pump that i will be tossing into my bag from here on out. but more or less i'm looking for what you folks carry for a daily commute so i can complete my shopping list so i don't end up in this stupid situation again.
thanks.

I keep a small bag of various tools in my backpack.
15mm wrench
Allen Key set
Spare Tube(s)
Tire levers
Pump
There's probably some other misc. stuff in there too, but I think these items are always in the bag.

Sup, I had a 10 mile commute through Culver City/Palms/Mar Vista/Venice/ SM for years. Typically carried my 15mm wrench, pump (topeak), two tubes, patch kit, diy tire boot, tire levers, 5 and 6 mm Allen wrenchs.

15mm Wrench
Crank Brothers M19
Pedro's Tire Levers x 2
Lezyne Pressure Drive
Tire Boot
Patch kit
Spare Tube x 2
Zip Ties
Quick Link
Gerber Dime Multi Tool. (Really just for the pliers. To pull debris out of my tires)
A tire boot is a piece of tough material that you can put between your tube and tire in case you get a hole in your tire that your tube will poke out of. A folded up bill can work too.

Tire boot is basically a patch for the actual tire itself -- ParkTools has kit you can buy but you can also use a dollar bill in a pinch.
i think i might have seen it but never been. how is it? i'm looking for more or less a 'go to' shop. i've only been to a few shops out here on the west side and a few every where else. i go to the helen's on broadway quite a bit but mainly for random stuff like buy some clif bloks.

We operate an all volunteer bike co-op. It wont be so much as go-to for buying lots of new things but if you ever need to do repairs or want to learn to do them yourself, this is the place.

strapped under my seat in a roadrunner tool roll:
3wrencho
shiny object +co2
patch kit (patches, glue, couple squares coarse grit sandpaper[for smoothing out the tube], alchohol prep pads[cleaning off the crap so the glue gets a good seal])
spare tube

VAR bead jack
lezyne micro floor drive (mounted to seattube)
my keys also have a leatherman squirt so i guess you could count that

Allen key set.
That's it.
Had some flats on the way to and from work a couple times.
Still haven't learned my lesson.

Two tubes, patch kit, hex wrenches, wrench for track nuts on fix gears. Frame pumps on all bikes. four or five dollar bills of any denomination in my wallet for tire boots. Leatherman or similar non-bike multitool/knife on my keys. This gets me out the vast majority of jams.

18 tpi saw blades do a great job of cutting through human bone.
not that i have any personal experience with that or anything. or have one in my trunk with questionable stains on it.

Multi allen key tool
15mm wrench
Patch kit
2x tire levers
Spare tube
Pliers
Knife
Mini pump
Handful of mini bungees
Lately my girlfriend has been into taxidermy so I've been keeping some gloves and a couple trash bags for when I find some road treasures.
