Web Cyclery is good and keeps it real! MeanTodd has helped me out a few times!

Excel Sports has some Surly track cogs and other nonsense. I used to go there when I lived in CO.

Working bikes is overrun with stuff lying around. Picked up a nice old set of bmx break levers for the fixie, gave the guy 3 bucks. Urban bikes in uptown is also very good. Ask if you could go in the basement and look through the bins.

I've been in the shop a dozen times, never bought anything and never even really talked to the guy in there. But he always has the newest Fuji Pro Track frame on display in the front window, and usually has several track or fixed gear bikes for sale (new and used)

Melbourne, Victoria

I know 3 that handle SS frames and components:

1. Peter Moore's Abbottsford Cycles
Stocks Surley Frames, Velocity Hubs
Also does some frame work for conversion

2. Brunswick Street Cycles
Stock Surley and OnOne Frames aswell as some higher quality SS components

3. Spoke(n)
They stock Spot Brand frames as well as components

Peter Moore is excellent if you are trying to put something together to a tight budget. He often has second hand stuff that can be difficult to find.

cheers

They've got a display case full of fixed/ss stuff, and a few old frames hanging around. Also a new hirschfield frame. Seem like pretty alright guys, too.

Not much on the webpage, but come by the the store at Ridge and Wade. I try to keep small stuff, cogs and hubs and such, in stock all the time. We also have complete bikes and all the guys that work here ride.

they are mostly triathlon...but do vintage restorations and track stuff as well...they have a couple of local frame builders frames on display as well....

great overall shop.....

as the one you work in as well.... next time i'm in i'll be feeling 100% instead of feverish and sickly....which was why i wasn't as talkative which is probably for the best as now since i would hate to have gotten your whole shop sick....

For a one time $30 you are a member for life and can "do it yourself" using their tools, workstands, wheel truing stands etc. including all lubes, cleaners, bio-deisel solvent and even rubber gloves. We are dialing in a used track bike that must have been wrecked. The owner, Charles, straightened out the frame, we repacked all bearings and are building up a Dura Ace HF wheelset. It rides great now! I'll post the final product.

Hey Folks,

For anyone in Canada, there is another site. www.bikeophile.com (shameless plug for my own business of course)

I do carry a decent amount of track parts and am adding new stuff pretty regularly. I am a distributor for the new LEVEL Track hubs.

I also work with a local bike shop in Toronto, who in my opinion is one of the best authorities on track builds and repairs (CAVERN CYCLES).

On my site shipping is free to Canada.

As far as sources for amazing info:

My favorites are harris and business cycles

As to The Freewheel bike shop on Valencia in SF:
http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/69026808.html

thats just scary and wrong

*Note... this in no way reflects on the Freewheel on Hayes in SF. Freewheel hayes is probably the best shop i've found here.

dolface 04-18-05 04:41 PM

i've been seeing/hearing more complaints about freewheel valencia recently, word seems to be getting out.

as far as i know there isnt a single bike shop that is fixed or single speed specific friendly. you have to hunt all over town. that being said there are a few couriers that work part tiem as couriers and part time as mechanics out of their home that can help out with fixing and building things. but not necessarily getting things.

I don't know about the best place, but Uptown Bikes has great used parts. They're right across the street from the red line stop of Uptown when you get to the street level. Here's the address: 4653 N. Broadway.
