Landry's on Commonwealth has been good to me, awesome service and average prices. www.landrys.com |

For those of you near orange county, ca, King's Bikes in Seal Beach is getting a pretty good track selection. Last time I was in there they had a Colnago Dream, Felt TK2, Pista and Pista concept, a vintage colnago frame as well as a hungarian track bike. Plus a steamroller frame, lots of surly, soma and D-A components. Apparently they're also hooking up with EAI to carry that stuff. Most of the guys I talked to there (3 of the 4) road either a track bike or fixed conversion.

Good guys in Brooklyn

Both OBS and LBS, NYCBikes in Brooklyn at www.nycbikes.com. Knowledgeable, fun shop, great stock, and prices on my wheelset were cometitive with eBay stores (who btw aren't there to true up your wheels after the first couple of weeks of pounding the !*@&* out of them in the city). Here's a step by step description of how Will helped me build mine: http://www.jaycokingpin.com/singlefix.pdf
A buddy bought his Cityfixed (about a 600-700 dollar bike) and loves it, if you're not into the the do it yourself thing. In fact he liked it enough to buy his wife a Tricity (sorta the same frame only with a 3 speed internal hub--no fixed gears but then again she hauls their kid back and forth across the Williamsburg bridge in the baby seat). All for what its worth. Cheers... |
I've been disappointed by most of the shops in D.C. But the journey to College Park Bicycles is absolutely worth it. Chad is like macguyver with these old bikes.

I'm used to the Mt. airy version, not the CP, I think I figured out what the filter is.

They will take care of everyone from the delivery guy who needs a new basket to the bike messenger who needs new bullet-proof wheels to a newbie who needs to know how to put a helmet on (I kid you not, somebody was trying a helmet on backwards). |

In DFW (Irving), I've found Trinity Bicycles to be a nice shop. It's really just 2 guys in a warehouse building.
I had them build me a rear wheel (Deep V with Surly hub) for a decent price. |
Southern Finland
Helsinki LBS: pyorahuolto.com - Okka knows his stuff. Much respect Espoo LBS: pyoratohtori.fi - mr K has awesome knowledge of bikes, components and tools. If not in stock, it will be made, machined, welded, ordered, designed, imagined or conjured up by sheer magic. OBS: cyclecomponents.com in Sweden. Prices are right and they have stuff in stock. |

This shop has hands down the coolest staff of any shop I have seen. I brought a bike in the other day and they replaced a headset for me on the spot, with me standing there watching the whole time. When I worked in the shops there was no way that was happening. I just found them recently and now make it a point to buy everything there. In north OC / south LA county its a place worth checking out. |

The owner, Niles, is a nice guy once you get to know him. Just make sure you don't interrupt him or crowd his space. He will get pissed! Every one else who works there is nice too. |

Stopped by Shaw's Lightweight Cycles tonight to see about a new wheelset.. This store is the real deal. Both mechanics(/owners?) were super knowledgable about track bikes and fixed gear, they had some sweet, sweet phil hubs on the shelf, tons of track bikes on the stands, and even an old 1-inch chain pitch hub on the countertop as a conversation piece (I guess). I don't know if I am going to get the wheels built there or from Harris online yet, but I'll definitely be back... http://www.shawscycles.com/track.html 45 Washington Street Santa Clara, CA 95050 408-246-7881 |
