VA Capital 2 Capital ride 2013--Richmond and Williamsburg
Just signed up for the Capital 2 Capital Ride to support the Cap2Cap trail, Williamsburg to Richmond, or Richmond to Williamsburg(depending on your point of view).
I signed up the century ride. It would be great to see any fellow BFrs riding the event.

Yes, I'm starting from Williamsburg, more precisely, Chickahominy Park.
If you're doing the century, we'll be in the same starting group, 07:30. The half-century starts at 08:30, but check-in for the 25, 50, and 100 starts at 06:30 and ends at 08:45. Obviously I have to check-in before 07:30--being the early bird I am, I'll likely be checking in close to the beginning.

This is a great ride, and if you start on the Richmond side, there is a big party with kegs, food, and music when you finish.... Think they had over 1200 riders last year (combined Richmond & Williamsburg starts).
I look forward to this ride every year, hope to see you all there!

That sounds fun. Hopefully they have something similar at the Chickohominy Park. I live in Newport News, so driving from Richmond after cycling 100 miles seems a bit much....I'm much closer to home coming from James City County.

It is a fun ride, but the 'party' is of the 'bring your own' variety. There's a decent catered lunch and a great pool (two).

I'm in. I've started at both ends, but going to start at Richmond this year. Hope the wind is favorable... The year before last I started in Williamsburg, and had a beautiful tailwind all the way back. That was nice.

Would've loved to meet you and introduce myself...maybe in a subsequent year if I do the ride again, but I certainly understand why you'd want to finish in Richmond since that would reduce the driving distance back to Northern VA.

Hello Dudes! or should it be "Ya'll"?..I'll actually be visiting the inlaws in Richmond over that weekend and this ride seems like a good excuse to excuse myself, get my drift? Have any of you, my east coast cycling bros, done this century in the past? How bout a little review?

It's a nice, pretty flat ride through mostly rural areas. I haven't done the entire century; I typically ride a shorter loop from Richmond since I live only a mile from the start. If the weather is good, it's a great ride. Lots of riders and a couple if big downhills at the end have caused some crash problems before, but generally it's pretty calm.

I'm thinking of changing up my registration. Local group has boycotted this ride due to the route change a couple years ago, which is now a lot less safe. But I hear the Richmond side is much better, so I may switch to that. Just means I'll need to stay the night in Richmond the night before, but I think I can make that happen.

The 100 mile routes look the same whether you start in Richmond or in Williamsburg. Are you talking about the shorter routes?

Yeah I hadn't checked into it, but you're right. The local group was complaining about the amount of time spent on highway 5, which it didn't in the past. But it was also described to me as a Richmond ride, with the Williamsburg side being an afterthought. The celebration at the end of each side is completely different.

I'll be doing it for the 2nd time. I can concur that Route 5 closer to Chickahomony park is a bit sketchy, with an occasional truck. Mostly that stretch just feels un-ending.

Well, whether you start from Richmond or Williamsburg, both sets of riders will be riding the same stretch--be it to the halfway mark or at the end.
