I am unsure. I am still getting back up to acceptable distances but not sure I could do much more than 14 miles.
Have you gone before? Is it a good turnout?

The Rails to Trails ride (in October) and the Clean Air Ride (in March) are both awesome rides. The trail isn't hilly and there are usually anywhere from 500 to 800 riders. I did the Rails ride last October for the first time. I've done the Clean Air Ride four times (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014). Usually I do the Inverness to Ridge Manor distance (~24 miles each way) with the obligatory ride on the overpass over SR50.

There are several BF members who usually do one or both rides. I'm hoping they'll post on here and maybe we can all meet up and ride together or at least ride part of the way.

I have registered. I did the Clean Air in March, and the Tour de Melon in June. Both were nice rides that were flat and fast. Doing 6 Gap (approx. 11,200 feet of climbing) the week before and then Horrible Hundred (approx 4100 feet of climbing) in November, and I am sure these will be a completely different experience. There is supposed to be a Florida 6 Gap training ride of 84 miles in Clermont at Waterfront Park on September 14 at 7:30 AM with approximately 4400 feet of climbing.

Good luck with the 6 gap ride. You are aware that its a century. When I lived in Atlanta I never even considered doing the 6 gap or the 3 gap 50 -- not even when I was in my late fifties.

I couldn't have done it in my 50's, but I'm in better shape now. I went to Clermont last night an went up the front and back of Sugarloaf 5 times. It is short, but definitely steep. Going downhill worries me a lot more than going up. I don't feel comfortable at 40+ mph. But I am looking forward to the challenge, and hopefully I'll meet it. I considered waiting till next year, but I'll be really old by then...today is the youngest I'll ever be.

I am going to ride 20 miles this Saturday and see how it goes. I don't want to drive up there if I can do a decent ride.

Possible bad news. I was hit (t-boned) yesterday on my way home from the Withlacoochee Trail. I'll provide more details in another post in the Southeast forum. After about 4 hours in the ER I was told that I may be off the bike for 3 to 4 weeks. I'll find out more today and later this week when I see the facial doctors. Got my fingers crossed that I'll be allowed to do the ride.

If I can ride I probably won't be doing the 48+ (Inverness to Ridge Manor and back) after being off the bike for 3 to 4 weeks.
If you still aren't up for the 48+ maybe we can ride together, if you don't mind riding with an old man.

If you are up to riding by then, I will ride with you. Hopefully I can keep up.
I have ridden 25 miles though I felt it the rest of the day.
How is the face?

My chest and upper arms ache and my legs are sore but I'm alive.
I think I'll be able to do the ride because the 3-4 week "jail sentence" will be ended before Oct 5.

Awesome.

If it gets here in time I'll be wearing this jersey.

I can't get to the Rails to Trails ride but I did my first Century on the Clean Air Ride last March. The Withlacoochee trail is a great ride even with the mountainous loop up on the north end that threw this 63 year old flatlander for a loop. I've been practicing since then and would be ready now. Wish I could make it.

So you won't be on the Trek? I'll be looking for a 1995 Trek 1220. I have the Florida jersey so I'll be wearing that. Easy to spot. Haven't heard from the bike shop yet about the new bike so not sure if I'll be on the Litespeed or the new Cannondale.

I won't be on the RED trek. My Trek 1220 is blue/purple.
