Georgia's Six Gap Century September 28, 2014 - Who's In?

I'll be coming from Central Florida. I can't wait! I have family in GA so I'll visit/stay with them on Saturday before the Sunday ride.

Excerpt from website:

"Coming on September 28, 2014 and taking place in Georgia's Premier Cycling Venue, the Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty boasts many of the same roads and mountain climbs as the elite Tour de Georgia. Come ride the Ride of the Pros! The Six Gap Century’s ultra challenging route takes you up and down six of the steepest climbs in the North Georgia Mountains. Test your stamina with more than 11,200 feet of vertical climbing over the 104 mile course. Elevations for the six gaps in this ride range from 1,400 feet to 3,460 feet. The toughest climb, Hogpen Gap, will test even the strongest riders, averaging a 7% grade for seven miles, with sections as steep as 15%.

The Three Gap Fifty’s alternative route offers half the gaps and half the distance, but is nevertheless a demanding and challenging course at 58 miles. Elevations range from 1,400 feet to 3,364 feet.

We are also pleased to announce the 7th Annual "Valley Route" Bike Ride. This 35-mile valley option is a great introduction to the infamous Six Gap Century and boasts some of the most scenic mountainside in the Southeast. This new route will cast a special spotlight onto Yahoola Valley, Turner's Corner, and R-Ranch in the Mountains.

100 miles. 11,200 vertical feet. 3,000 friends.

Registration includes:

Law enforcement support
Post Ride Spaghetti Dinner (11:00 am - 6:00 pm)
Medical Support
Official Participant Numbers
Timing chip
SAG, Tech Support and On-Course Communication
Food & Drink at Rest Stops
Custom Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty Bike Ride T-Shirt
Give Aways from Sponsors
Hot Showers after the Ride
Discount on Official Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty Bike Ride merchandise (pre-ordered online sales only)

The Six Gap Century includes 9 full rest stops, all supplied with a great selection of food and drink. We also include a huge spaghetti dinner after the ride.

The ride is fully supported and assisted by local and state law enforcement and ambulance services.

Tech support from a variety of local bike shops and sponsors is offered during the ride in many locations. Please note that there may be a fee for parts. Please bring extra bike supplies as parts and supplies for your bike may not be readily available.

Jack's Gap Cut-Off

To ensure timely completion of the ride for all participants, Six Gap Century riders must be through Jack's Gap (39 miles from start) by 11:00 am. Six Gap riders reaching Vogel State Park after 10:30 am MUST take the next left-hand turn onto Hwy-180 and finish the ride on the Three Gap route. Six Gap riders reaching Jack's Gap after 11:00 am MUST turn around and finish the ride on the Three Gap route. Any cyclists passing Jack's Gap after 11:00 am will not be guaranteed rest stop support. All riders must be off the course by 7:30 pm."

I still have my t shirt from the Six Gap Century dated October 2, 1994. I remember descending off Woody's Gap heading back toward Dahlonega in a rain shower, still determined to post a good time. Great ride.

I'm in. Closest room I could find was 4 miles outside of town. Have been training in Clermont. Up and down front and back of Sugarloaf last night 5 times...only 1749 feet of climbing in 16.38 miles. This should be quite a challenge for an old guy.
