Anyone in North/Central Mississippi?
Anyone else in North or Central MS?
I'm signed up to ride in the Bikes, Blues, and Bayous ride on August 1st. Anyone else coming to this ride? I'm signed up for the 46 mi but they have a Metric Century and some shorter, 20 and 11 miles, for the kids. I'm just getting back into cycling after 10 years away, this will be my first hurrah back. Link to the Event Website: BIKES, BLUES & BAYOUS - Home Mods, if this is not appropriate please move it. |
I'm in Stone County, in the 6 county "South Mississippi" area.
Lots of nice, rolling, lightly traveled back roads down here. I don't think I'll make to to the event, but, you enjoy! |

Yup. Just south and west of us.
I am familiar with the terrain there, and as of yet have not ridden there. If you venture down there drop me a note and we can pedal around here or there, whichever you prefer! |
Will do, sir.
If you find yourself in the Delta for some reason please let me know and I'll map out a ride or two. |
Not in north or central Mississippi but know a few guys who race mountain bikes from there. And to disagree with Ronno I consider myself in south Mississippi even though I live in Perry County.

Perry county is indeed in South Mississippi.
Just north of Stone County in which I reside. As a newcomer, I am not sure where I got the idea that "only" the 6 counties defined the area. I certainly mean no disrespect !! |

No problem, I don't have the post count to reply to your PM. But to answer your question I live north of Runnelstown. I ride the Mtb trails at Jackson road on the Long Leaf, I ride the new trails in Petal and sometimes ride the backroads around the house, but never on Hwy 29 because I don't want to die.
I avoid 26 down here like the plague....almost. I have to ride about 200 yards of hwy 26 to get to the first turnoff. I keep a very vigilant eye on the rear view mirror for that 200yd. Too bad about 29. It traverses directly from Wiggins to Runnlestown.......... Would have been a nice ride. |
You would probably survive below New Augusta, but the paper mill is in New Augusta so there will always be trucks coming and going. I would maybe ride it between New Augusta to Runnelstown but there are too many hills and curves with blind spots for me to ever feel safe on it.
