Visiting Orlando in Late June
Hi,
Occasional recreational riders here... :thumb: coming to visit Orlando for 4 days. I know it's going to be super hot so we wanted to rent bikes for a few days and ride in the cool(er) mornings. Right now, we have the rental set up from West Orange Trail Bikes for $99/person. Is there a better option? I don't even mind mind 2 junky walmart-type bikes for the same cost and then donating it to charity. Secondly, can you give us some beginner trails that we can ride for the 3 mornings we are there? I"m pretty sure the rental comes with a rack and we will have a rental car to drive to a trail. Scenic and not tooo strenuous... We are staying near the Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets Thanks! |
If you are referring to West Orange Trail Bikes and Blades, their website states that they are located at mile marker 0 of the West Orange Trail, which extends for 22 miles.
I have never ridden on it, but hear that it is nice. |
Is this 99 a person for three days, or 99 a person, each day?
Big difference. At the first I would say rent the bikes and have a good time with what should be fitting well working maintained bikes. The second, I would say buy a couple of cheap not bottom of the line BBS bikes + a "get riding right" tune at the local bike shop and then donate. (which is super cool, by the way) |
We have a number of great bike trails here in Central Florida, Check out "Rails to Trails Central Fl."

What we'll probably do is go for a ride each morning, maybe 90 min. We take recreational rides, 10-15 mph. we both ride 17.5 inch hybrids here |

When I inquired for some friends coming to visit, I believe they were asking about $25 a day for the bike. It's a great trail. From Kilarney Station (mile 0 - where the rental place is) to Apopka is about 22 miles I believe. So you can get a good ride in. At about the 5 mile mark you ride through downtown Winter Garden. Places to eat, shop, etc ...actually a couple of bike shops at this point as well. Very scenic ride. A lot of fun. I think you'll enjoy it. |
thanks, now it's $30/day. The prob with daily rentals is they don't open until 11. it's better for us (being morning people) to already have the bikes and be able to go out earlier, like 7 am

There are a lot of trails in the Orlando area. Here's link to some places that rent in the Orlando area. I hope you find some bikes and you get some time out on them. http://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=bike...=Orlando%2C+FL |
We're here Bike and Bladwes (west orange bike?) deliveredw the bikes on time yesterday. heading out this am, soon!
Bikes look good, but the car rack is the $h77iest one I've ever seen. Don't feel comfortable using it. Guess we'll ride very locally at least today :) |

Final update- we took the rack back and they gave us a brand new one. No hassles.
