Destin Florida - Off Road Riding?

The family and I are heading to Destin Florida next week. We're taking mountain bikes.

We're looking to ride the beach but my son and I would like to hit some more technical off road trails. I don't really expect to find any hills but would imagine there is some off road trails to ride.

Any suggestions?

There are some mtb trails on Eglin AFB in Ft Walton Bch. Don't know what's involved these days to get access. Also trails at UWF in Pensacola. Pensacola Off-Road Cyclists - PORC - porc.org

I've seen some trails near the Grayton Beach area in one of the parks, but I'm not sure they're mtb friendly. If you ride anywhere on Eglin, which is everywhere around the area, you'll need a Range Pass. Daily ones are cheap, even the annual isn't much, but they'll make you watch a short film - and it'll probably be easier to stop and get them before you get checked in at the beach. The issue office (Jackson Guard) is at 107 Hwy 85N in Niceville.

I'll be down there the end of this week, but with a road bike.

It's a little ways away, but I've seen quite a few mtbikers riding in Red Bay, and they finish up eating at the Red Bay Grocery.

and there is a larger trail system at UWF about 60 miles West. UWF Trail System - 2015 Mountain Bike Trail, Gonzalez, Florida

It looks like the Carbo Trails are right there at Ranger Camp Road, where you may notice a lot of road riders, particularly on Tuesday afternoon/evening.

i go every few years to navarre and can't speak for destin but most of the sand bar, excuse me island, is national park. i don't believe they let you ride there, so i hope you are staying mainland side. beautiful place though and for a road cyclist it's 26 miles of perfect roads from navarre to pensacola.
