I recently spent a week cycling about 250 miles around central Florida, mostly west of Orlando and north - northeast of Tampa. In the rural areas it occurred to me that the US highways (50,98,27,17) have decent shoulders and the traffic isn't moving too fast for it. The county roads have little to no shoulder as a rule. Is that a good assumption for the rest of Florida? I'm thinking of some big trips and like my shoulders. All that said, all of the 1000s of drivers I encountered only 2 commercial trucks doing 45-50 buzzed me. Everyone else was very courteous, had a great time.

Pretty much true in the panhandle. 27, 98 and 20 have decent shoulders everywhere I can think of. 90 is good most places, I think, but has a few notable shoulderless miles right in my area that I work around on local rides. Most of the county roads around here are indeed without shoulders, but traffic is pretty light so they're a pleasure to ride.

I have found FL rural roads are a mixed bag. Some have shoulders, some don't. Many aren't paved, but dirt roads. I always do a Google street view to get a better idea of what a road is like. I haven't really thought about the difference between the US highways, SR or CR.

We're moving to FL soon, buying a new home in Champions Gate near Celebration. Glad to hear the roads are good to ride there, I am really looking forward to more riding in my life. Any recommendations on places to ride around there are most appreciated.
