Blue Ridge GA Area ROAD bike rides
Relocating to Morganton near Blue Ridge. I haven't been able to find much info on road bike routes or groups in the area. Will I have to convert to MB? Would love a couple routes to try and really would like to find a group. Thanks all! Dede

Last time I was in Blue Ridge checking on road bike routes the shop owner said he only sold mtn bikes for a reason.
You'll find a lot of road riders drive to Vogel State Park and ride US129 to Blairsville. It's uphill all the way but the ride back to Vogel is downhill with lots of curves.
I have seen the occasional rider on 515 riding on the shoulder between Blue Ridge and Blairsville.

My in laws live not far from you, in Cherry Log, and I can't say I've ever seen a group riding out there. But, like Ron says, if you don't mind driving to Vogel and riding from there the riding is absolutely excellent.

@dleuthe, there are beautiful roads in that area and all through North Georgia. At a minimum you will be able to explore by car and find plenty of places to ride.
Check RidewithGPS.com. Any route by Gary Quillet is going to be excellent. He runs some great rides but is pretty quick.
There is great riding further south at Sosebee Cycling Park in White. This place is amazing with several hundred riders on summer weekends.
Trish Albert will likely have some routes at Southeastern Cycling | Southeastern cycling news, rides, races and photos. Look under the "And More" link.
You could also ask at ATLBike.org. I know at least one user there has a home in Blue Ridge.
I know you said ROAD rides but if you like gravel or mixed surface rides then you are in for a treat. I drive up that way as often as I can for gravel.
Look me up after you get settled. I'd love to explore up that way.

Thanks all. Can't wait to get there. Just in time for the summer ride season......
Tim, I haven' done gravel. I have a Trek hybrid in my bike status. Would that work? If you I might take you up on your offer when I get settled.

I don't know about a hybrid. It depends on gearing and tires.
Most of the gravel around here is pretty gnarly and steep but the reward is solitude and scenery.

We ride from Vogel as mentioned above and from Jasper to Blue Ridge and back. There is every type of riding in North Ga. Enjoy.

Lots of good riding around there. From Blue Ridge, head to Suches, cross over Woody Gap and fly down to “The Y”. You can either a:go straight at the Y and hun on into Dahlonega or B: turn left and go to Turner’s Corner. At Turners, go left and get an 8 mike climb to the top of Blood Mt. (Neal’s Gap, also AP Trail crosses there). Scream down Neal’s and just after the entrance to Vogel, turn left on Wolf Pen Gap. Wolf Pen is a glorious climb. Once you crest it, it’s a sweet descent that shoots past Lake Winfield Scott, and climbs a little to Suches. At Suches, turn right and head to Blue Ridge. I’ve got other routes for you. PM or email me if you like.

Define "safe"? It's the southern US, you're on a road bike, there is a 20% chance of rain tomorrow, it's steep mountain roads....
Vogel is a wonderful place to ride. It'll be crazy busy this weekend but I imagine tomorrow should be quite nice. It's hot so start early and drink tons. See my comment above with the GPS tracks starting from Vogel.

Thanks for the answer! I'll go early morning, for safe I meant many cars on the road maybe won't see me riding after a curve... that's why I was trying to find a bike group or an area without many cars on the road..

Yes, but very limited for a road bike. I have often ridden from Vogel up to Blairsville and back. There is just enough hill coming out of Vogel to get your blood up but then mostly just rollers up to Blairsville. There is a nice little convenience store on the left just before you get to the square and can chill on some benches at the "courthouse" before heading back. Totally worthwhile ride. Stop at some of the bridges and enjoy the shady breeze while the creek rolls by.
