Novice gravel roads in North GA
 

The wife and I are thinking of giving this gravel stuff a try because cars suck. My "road" bike is a Jamis renegade so I'm set. Before we commit to buying her a dedicated gravel bike we'd like to try some rides that she can do on her road bike that has very relaxed geometry. I can fit some 35mm tires on her bike so she should be fine. Can anyone suggest some nice dirt roads up north to do some couple friendly 20 mile or so rides? I'm trying to avoid single track type stuff.

I'm in Cobb County and am familiar with a small subset of gravel roads up north. The one's I'm familiar with are going to be steep and/or long climbs.

If you don't mind climbing then there is the Southern Cross route. You could do loop from the Springer Mountain AT trailhead parking lot for 19.6 miles and 2084 feet climbing. The long climb up Forest Service Rd 54 is along a rushing, whitewater creek/river.

There are lots of nice routes south of Atlanta near Monticello. Part of the Red Clay Ramble route would be nice.

Hello Mega - When I need a easy to get to 'gravel fix' one of my quickest to get to locations is the forest service road that leads north out beyond the north side of Amicolola Falls.
You may well be very, very familar with said road; however, if not it is the road that continues out beyond Cabin C-14 in this pdf download of Amicolola

(the extension of the road beyond C-14 is not shown therein but it 'transforms' to a forest service road that leads for miles and has numerous branches as you would see represented via a Delorme map of course :- ).
