Comments/Suggestions on route from Bucks County, PA to Rodanthe, NC (OBX) - South leg

I am planning a trip from Langhorne, Bucks County, PA this summer down to Rodanth, NC on the outer banks. With hopes that the ferries, bridge shuttles, etc. open back up, I plan to cross into NJ and ride down the center of the state, along the DelMarVa, and along the coast in NC.

One of the more tricky sections seems to be the last day from Virginia Beach on to the island. The other member on the trip is pretty keen on taking the Knotts Island ferry, but that is still up for debate. I have ridden the trip from Kitty Hawk south to Rodanthe, so i'm fairly set there (not that there is a great deal of variation anyway).

Anyone have any comments or suggestions regarding the route below which I have put together? Obviously i don't know most of these roads from a riding perspective, so i'm trying to pool together as much information as I can before hand.

Thanks in advance.

Know the rules regarding the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for bicyclists.

Check the ferry schedules this is the time of year that a lot of ferry systems perform maintenance work.

Those old back roads going down to the ferry are now part of urban sprawl so you will have traffic to consider and some of it's going to be 4 Lane.

It's not the Sleepy Hollow it used to be.

Fortunately we're timing this so we have transportation across the CBBT. This should save us a lot of headache.

The trip will not be until closer to the summer when the weather breaks, but I will definitely keep an eye on the schedules. Thank you for the heads up.

Are you referring to the Cape May-Lewes or the Knott's Island Ferry?
