Or "Hey y'all", or something!
They don't think we are a serious cycling town folks...let's prove 'em wrong, and stay in touch.
So...who's from GA? Who are you? What do you ride? Where are you riding? When's the next meet-up? Why is it 85 degrees in October?

And I would never want to be considered a serious cyclist. I think of my daily commute as the time I get to act like a kid.
I ride my Giant OCR Touring (a.k.a. Tank Girl) from near North DeKalb Mall in Decatur to my job at Five Points. She's a bit heavy, but a fine bike to take into harm's way.

First off I thought I'd clear this up from the Intro thread.
Here's what the law says. https://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/GaCode...=6§ion=296
40-6-296.
(a) Every bicycle when in use at nighttime shall be equipped with a light on the front which shall emit a white light visible from a distance of 300 feet to the front and with a red reflector on the rear of a type approved by the Department of Public Safety which shall be visible from a distance of 300 feet to the rear when directly in front of lawful upper beams of headlights on a motor vehicle. A light emitting a red light visible from a distance of 300 feet to the rear may be used in addition to the red reflector.
Purdy doesn't adequately describe how nice it is.
Why am I sitting in front of this computer?
I moved from Orlando to Atlanta in 1992 because Emory University thought I was their savior. At least for the department I was working in.
In 2000 corporate downsizing hit (yes, universities are corporations). It hit me again at another employer in 2003.
So now I am an under-employed "something" thinking about tattoo #3.
I work for the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign as the bike education specialist (whatever that is), Share the Road campaign coordinator (free Share the Road bumper stickers), webmaster, financial whatever, technical guru, and janitor.
My bikes are shown in my signature.
I bike commute year round from my part of Decatur to Virginia-Highland - about 8.5 miles one-way.
On the weekends I ride from home to Stone Mountain and do a lap or two around the mountain and head home. Not many cyclists live in my neighborhood so I'm usually a loner on the weekend.
After I get my new "geek" lights set up on my commuter bike, I may start doing the Tuesday night ride from Melton's App & Tap. Several friends have invited me, so.....
The next meet up for "this" group is whenever anyone suggests a place and time.
Why is it 85 degrees? To torture me 'cause I'm stuck inside. I'm a warm, sunny day kind of guy.
Can't wait for April. Cold weather ---> BOO! HISS!

Cool! Good to meet you, Ron. We got our own mod! Wo0t!
I think our first BikeForums meet should be at App&Taps, since both BikeSouth and JoshFrank are right there, and a lot of us are in Decatur (The Deck).
What do y'all think?

Ok, I'll bite.
I'm live in Decatur and I work in Decatur for a transportation planning firm. I've started teaching some bike ed classes for the Atlanta Bicycling Campaign (thanks Ron).
I ride a single speed Surly Cross Check most days but have a vintage Trek 520 for long days. Plus several other odd bikes bouncing around.
Upcoming rides/events:
- October 21st is the City of Decatur's workshop for their Community Transportation Plan. If anyone is interested in riding in or around Decatur you should show up and comment. There will be a brief workshop at 9am followed by a 4.5 mile ride around the city -- slow pace so that we can stop and talk about local issues. PM me for more details
- I've just plotted a local Civil War history route around Decatur, Inman Park, and East Atlanta. It follows the events of the Battle of Atlanta and stops at many of the historical sites. If anyone wants to ride it PM me and I can give you the cue sheet. I'll be hosting a group ride along the route later in the month.

And I agree. Melton's App & Tapp is a fine place to meet. Just pick a night and I'll be there.

I'm in. Any night but Wednesdays - that's the Buckhead ride and I don't wanna miss it for the few more weeks we ride.
The Melton's Tuesday night ride looks like a good one to try, because there will be a big group of folks.
Try to get 'Allez' to join us before he sells his bike.

Ahh, see, I was thinking we could just tag along on the Tuesday night ride, since it's an established ride, folks might know the route or have maps, safety in numbers, blah, blah, blah and all that jazz. Just until we know everyone's pace. (In other words, in case y'all drop me!)

My usual route is through Scottdale, Avondale Estates, Decatur, Chandler Park, Litttle Five Points, Inman Park and Edgewood Ave. Almost all the streets are 25, 30, or 35 mph, and it has a nice bike path along a good portion of it.

Nice to have an in-town group. I live in Inman Park and ride around L5P, Emory, Druid Hills and Decatur. Typically I ride on my own, so a group would be fun.

Let's shoot for next week. I'm good for either Tues. or Thurs. at App & Taps. Let's say seven-ish?
Dauphin, I hope to see you there as well!

Its official name is Melton's App and (&?) Tap, and it's in a little strip mall at the intersection of North Decatur and Scott Blvd., on N.D, on the left, next to a big pet store.
