25 in Mount Juliet. Used to be a 100 mile/week rider until all my engineering classes in college took away my free time. But I'm trying to get back into it.

I will most likely be there. This will be my 3rd year. It was my first century and I have developed a fondess for it.

I'll be trying to beat my prior times.

Last year was 5:39:00 with about 37 minutes of stopped time.

This year I would like to try to finish between 5:20 and 5:25 and 6 hours or under total. Not sure if my fitness is there or not right now. It it is hot and windy I may have trouble meeting these goals.

Interested in towing me?

Hi Everyone,

My name is Roger and I live in Franklin.

I just joined BF, and I am looking for my first bike (since a 10speed as a kid). I have been around to the LBS's and have an idea of a couple of bikes that I might want. I am looking forward to riding.

I belong to the Harpeth Bike Club. They have a lot of rides that actually start out our way. I don't get to many of them because I need to start my training rides between 5 - 6 AM which is a lot earlier than they usually start. But it's a good group of folks. Plus you can go ride at the race track at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Done that a few times. It's fun.

I see a pretty good group from Trace Bikes out a lot of Saturdays as well. I've talked to a couple of them and they seem like a great group as well.

There are other rides around too. A good place to check is nashville cyclist

I belong to, and ride with "team Trace Bikes" (more like a club, or riding group than team?) There are Thursday evening and Saturday morning rides. Everyone is very agreeable and it's a friendly atmosphere.

Aside from the side-roads in my town, my favorite place to ride is the Natchez Trace Parkway. Smooth pavement, pretty scenery, and sparse traffic. (no dogs too)

I think I'll probably average 15 JohnKScott, so that wouldn't help you with your goals. I could have done a 16 or 17 average last year but I'm "slow" this year due to lack of mileage... but maybe I'll do better than I think since it's pretty flat??

Yes. It's about as flat as it gets. My stats from last year show about 1,700 ft of climbing total over the whole 100 miles. It very (very, very) seldom shows over a 1% - 2% grade with a max grade of 5.7% which happens at mile 80. It's very short.

The real "monster" on this course the last two years I've done it is the wind. Last year I was lucky enough to catch on with a group for a good part of the first 60 miles and was able to average 20 mph for that 60 miles. The wind was also mostly at our backs and picked up as the temp warmed up. After that I got caught out in the wind and lost contact after that and the 40 miles coming back into the wind averaged 15 mph (I'm sure fatigue played a part too).

We should at least make it a point to say hey. As the event gets closer l'm game to have a BF meet and greet. Hopefully there will be a few more BF'ers there otherwise it will be a pretty small meet and greet .

John and others, I am clarksville based (john I just posted on your blog before I read the rest of your posts *LOL*) but I will not be able to make it this year for the sunrise century (heading to ATL for geek fest - dragon con *LOL*). There is also the CRAM held in May I believe that does the same route so maybe see you guys then. Only been back in cycling 5 months and max I have riden has been the metric route in clarksville (way overweight so been getting healthy - started 309lbs down to 250 at mo). One of my goals is however to do full Century so who knows next season (trainer getting purchased at end of month for weekday winter cycling/training as I work in Nashy). Currently working on my stamina and endurance, max I have done is sustained 16.6mph (Ave from computer) for about 18.5 miles.

Welcome, Scotlandtb!

There are 3 or 4 good events each year in the Clarksville area.

Where are you riding?

doghouse, I have a 20 mile route that starts from my house down 101st to dover road, along dover then up a back road to lafayette then back up to 101st and home. I also do some of the kirkwood rides from the clarksville cycle clubs site (plus modifications of the routes), the lock b ride when I want some pain *LOL* and do the sango road routes (and modifications of them) also.

I generally hang our in the clydesdales forum but this was first one I came to so come back occasionally *grin*
