Silver Comet
I am planning on riding the Silver Comet sometime in April. I have a few questions:
1) Best area to stay? I will have my trike in the back of the car, so I would like a secure area to stay. Something like a Holiday Inn express, Marriott etc.
2) Is it best to ride from East to West or would it be reasonable to ride from West to East and thus stay near Alabama somewhere?
3) Are there a reasonable number of bathrooms and food stops along the trail?
My plan is to drive from DFW to the trail, ride the next day or two. Then I will head back west to the Longleaf trace in Hattiesburg.

Indeed if the Chief Landiga is tied in to the Silver Comet it appears that staying in Alabama and riding the trail makes perfect sense. No reason to drive additional mileage just to turn around and ride West instead of east.

I ride the SCT probably 2-3 times per week, we hub road rides out the Hiram area and use the SCT to start/finish our routes. Hiram is about at mile marker 15 for reference.
If you're looking for a 'character reference' about the SCT area you could start here:

The Ladiga Trail section along Terrapin Creek is exceptional and I still enjoy riding the SCT from Hiram to the train tunnel. I also have some exceptional road routes that connect Piedmont, AL to Cerdartown or Rockmart, GA.
Rockmart or Cedartown both have local hotels.
