Yep....... A bit over 20 miles. Rode from the Waldo Flea Market to the trail head in Grandin. It was overcast most of the way so that helped a LOT with the heat. Saw a family about 1.5 miles from the trail head. Little girl was crying her eyes out, saying she didn't want to ride any more and could not make it back to the car. Hope they made it back at some point.. Good ride enjoyed the hills on SR 26 through Melrose.

I rode yesterday. First ride since my visit to the sports med doc on Wednesday. The x-ray showed nothing (no surprise there). He twisted and turned my knee and felt the bones and asked it this hurt or that hurt. I'm having an MRI next week. I'm sure that the left knee will be just like my right knee was a few years ago. Athro surgery, 3-4 weeks on the trainer, and then back out on the road. :)
After all that twisting and turning my leg didn't feel like riding until yesterday. For some reason my breathing was off so only did 28 miles. :(

Today’s ride:

Rode with the Florida Freewheelers today, it was an excellent 45 + mile ride. We all started from SR 17/92 in Casselberry and the ride leader was Ed Fraser the VP of the Free Wheelers. He has been leading this ride on Sundays for some time. We had about 16/20 riders and maintained a good 15 to 18 mph pace. Traffic was light and we had a good bike lane most of the way to The University of Central Florida. We rode through Winter Springs to Geneva then on to the Little Econ Greenway then out by Baldwin Park then back to SR 17/92. This was a very good ride and a well planned route. I will do this ride again. The sky was cloudy and overcast but we did no get any rain

I have reviewed my 2011 goal and reset my figures to 8,000 miles. I might have to re-evaluate that number again in September.

Ride statistics for: 06/26/2011
 Miles today: 46+

nice ride out in back of where we live through horse country. Left early to beat the heat. Some major hills (for me at least). Only about 15 miles but better than no ride.
Couple of pics

top of a major hill. I felt pretty good @ 7 mph up. Hubby wasn't even sweating.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=208224
yea, he was in front of me but I made it and I hit a new high on the way down (24 mph). Luckily not much traffic as there is no bike lane. We saw remnants of the Frank Polluck Memorial ride that was out here awhile back (arrows for SAG stops) That ride has a 30 mile and a 60+ mile ride. Might make the 30 one day.

On another note, other knee is scheduled for surgery in August so I'm really gonna try to get some miles in beforehand so the recovery goes as well as the last one.

Got out Sunday morning for a ride to Stone Mountain Village and back. 33 miles. I think that's my longest ride since the beginning of the year. Started getting a bit hot on the way back. Should've left earlier. :-)

Today’s ride:

Rode with the Dick Davidson today, it was an excellent 62 + mile ride for me and 44 miles for Dick . I started at 5:30 this morning to get in some extra miles and possibly beat the rain that we were supposed to have today. I road about 18 miles before heading to the 436 trail head to meet with Dick Davidson at 7:00 AM. Our other riding partner Jim is off to North Carolina to ride the mountains for a month (lucky him). We did the normal ride to Panera Bread for breakfast and decided to ride through Heathrow and evaluate the weather to determine how far we would go. It was over cast but it didn’t look like rain so we decided to go all the way. It proved to be a good decision as it never rained a drop on us. It was a good ride today, and this is the highest mileage month that I have ever had.

I have reviewed my 2011 goal and reset my figures to 8,000 miles. I might have to re-evaluate that number again in September.

Took the latest iteration of the Specialized out today for a quick 28 miles. Not a bad ride. I guess I'll keep it.

Yep.... After messing with map my ride the other day to work out the 1st leg of my 3 day tour.. I mapped this ride out for fun. I have ridden all of the roads on this loop except the stretch between Melrose and Keystone Heights. It was a good ride overall... not too hot, some clouds and no rain. But a bit too much traffic on the stretch between Melrose & Keystone. That stretch does have a small bike lane, but I still wasn't very comfortable. Of course the time of day I was riding didn't help either... Lots of people getting off of work. Map my ride was almost dead on on the total distance. 23.74 miles. Anyway great ride...

Here is a link to the route if anybody is REALLY bored and wants to check it out.... LOL http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/39037258/

Ohh I tried that with my phone too.... But I live out in the sticks and the GPS sat signal would drop sometimes and mess the whole thing up. So I just mapped my ride using google maps on the mapmyride site, and then went and actually rode the ride that I had mapped yesterday. Filled in some of the details after I got done riding it. I was VERY surprised at how close the mileage was to my bike computer. It was only a few tenths off. Right now I'm in the process of trying to map my 3 day tour I want to do this fall. I Really like the street view for checking what kind of roads I'm mapping. Yep I know it's no 100%, but it sure helps when planning a ride where you have never ridden before.

zzOtherlandzz 06-29-11 05:57 PM

Yep... 26.02 miles. I had plans for a different ride than what I ended up riding... I got dressed loaded up and ready to go just as it started raining here at home. I was driving to the PLB trail head that is about 9 miles away. You know how Florida is... could be raining here and not a drop a few miles away. Got to the trail and and then about 3 miles into the ride and a light rain started with clouds that looked like a HARD rain was going to start at any time. So instead of doing the 30 mile hilly road ride I had planned I decided to stick close to the trail. I really don't like riding on the roads in a pouring down rain if I can help it. I can see fine... but I'm afraid the drivers can't see me. Anyway I decided to parallel the trail and ride on SR100, I could always jump back on the trail if it rained hard. Road 12 miles out on the road... started back and it started POURING.... so jumped on the trail for the ride back to the van... Got back to the van and went a bit further to make it 26.02 miles.... Great ride... even in the rain..... cooled me off nicely... <sigh> Now I have to dry everything out and clean the bike..... DOH!!

@zzOtherlandzz my rides in town involve a lot of last minute decisions (hey, what's down here!) or (oh crap, i missed the turn, let's try this!) so it'd be really nice if it would keep track of it for me because i'll never remember what i did plus it's too much of a pain to recreate all those turns. the elevation info is really nice, too. oh well, i have a bike computer too and it gets me the basic info.

Today’s ride:

Rode with the Dick Davidson today, it was an excellent ride except it really started to rain with about 7 miles to go. I did wind up with a 62 + mile ride and Dick had about 44 miles. I road about 17 miles before heading to the 436 trail head to meet with Dick Davidson at 7:00 AM. Yep... Decided to take the 29'er to the post office and see where I ended up... I dunno... I was just not feeling IT.... what ever IT may be... Just felt slow and blah today. Bike PC battery went dead about when I got to the post office. Figured I would start to feel better when i got a few miles in.... So went west on SR20 (where some of the hills are)... NOPE didn't feel any better LOL But kept slugging it out decided to go a bit further went south into the wind for a few miles. About when I turned around it started to rain... after a few minutes of rain I did finally start feeling a bit better... Must have just cooled me off. Like you SloSpoke had to ride the last 7 miles or so in the rain.... Mapped my ride when I got home it says I did about 17.62 miles. Glad I went.... but wasn't so sure when I was riding lol

SloSpoke...... Gongrats on your best month ever.... Your out riding at 5:30am .... at that time I'm not awake or thinking about anything for at least 2 more hrs... :D

RonH 07-01-11 03:26 PM

Took the Litespeed out today. Hot when I left, hotter when I got home. :o
Did 33 miles.

Today’s ride:

Rode with the Dick Davidson again today, it was an excellent but warm ride. I did a 62 + mile ride and Dick had about 44 miles. I started at 5:30 this morning to get in some extra miles and possibly beat the heat that we were supposed to have today. I road about 17 miles before heading to the 436 trail head to meet with Dick Davidson at 7:00 AM. We did the normal ride to Panera Bread for breakfast and decided to ride through Heathrow to the horse farms. I had my Flying WV jersey on today and as we were having breakfast a young girl came over to our table and asked me if I was from West Virginia and I replied that I was. Turns out that her father was the WV Mountaineers football QB in the early 60s when I went to school up there. It is amazing how many people I meet when I wear the WV jersey. It’s a small world

Today’s ride:

Rode solo today with the exception of the 6 miles from the Sylvan Lake Trail Head to Panera Bread where I rode with a guy that lives in Maitland that I see and talk to on many rides. I started at 6:30 this morning to get in some miles and possibly beat the heat that we were supposed to have today. I did the normal ride to Panera Bread for breakfast and decided to ride through Heathrow to the horse farms. After the horse farms I road west on SR 46 to River Road where I turned north along the river. About a mile down the road I saw a dozen wild turkeys off to my right trying to find something to eat. As I stopped to watch them for a minute two deer walked out of the woods and looked me over pretty close then walked back into the area that they had just come from.

Tomorrows plan: The Freewheelers are having a Forth of July picnic and ride in Mt. Dora, I might attend.

michelinmike 07-04-11 07:44 AM

Sunday July 3 2011 record heat Tampa Bay area. Suncoast Trail. Met my riding buddy Ken at the trail around 11:15 am rode together to the 12 mile marker he had to return home to prep house for a party tomorrow the 4th. I continued on to the 28-mile marker, Powell Road in Spring Hill, Chefs of Napoli Restaurant and the Wine Toad in the shopping plaza. Beautiful but hot day for a ride after all of the rain we have been having. Humidity decreased. Noticed a lot of rubbing and chafing of feet in shoes on the way up, never had this problem before. had to take my socks off and ride without them on the way back. Shoes have apparently shrunk from having been soaked numerous times over the years in squalls and rainstorms on the trail. They were bought in 1990. Definitely need to replace them. By mile 45 I was in serious discomfort, thighs burning, despite plenty of hydration and Clif bars. My cycling regimen over the past month has been maximum two hour rides. This ride took five hours averaging a bit over 11 mph with a stop to relieve myself in the woods and one to cool down with a water bath. Normally I average 14 mph however there was a shearing east to west wind both on the Northbound and Southbound legs of the trip. Very few cyclists out there I was basically by myself the whole journey. Saw a monstrous turtle on the side of the trail, numerous horses, donkeys, goats and cows on the properties adjacent to the trail which passes through Pasco and Hernando counties which are horse country in Florida. Some of the larger grazing ranches seem to have been abandoned and have become overgrown with foliage, possible signs of the eroding U.S economy. However the smaller land owners seem to be doing well.

RonH 07-04-11 12:36 PM

Rode out to Stone Mtn (who'd a thunk it ). Way too many cars and pedestrians so only did one lap. Had to stop twice during the one lap (police directing traffic and pedestrians). Did 30 miles.

Today’s ride:

Rode with the Florida Freewheelers today on the annual July 4th Picnic ride. About 75 members meet at Trimble Park at 8 AM for the annual picnic ride. My friend Richard and I rode out with the shorter ride group since we needed to get back home at an early hour. Our ride consisted of a route around beautiful Lake Dora, through orange groves and shaded roads with very large expensive lake front homes. We went through the towns of Tavares and Mt Dora and got caught up in a July 4th parade in Mt Dora and had to take some side streets to avoid the crowd and parade. Just before we got to Mt Dora we stopped to help one of the club members (Ed Fraser) that was trying to work out some leg cramps. We stayed with him until he was able to ride again then finished the ride with him. It was a great ride but shorter than I had hoped. I really wanted to take some photos while in Mt Dora but we had to keep moving. It was a great group of riders and Mike the social director really cooked up some good burgers and dogs. I want to average 50 miles per ride again this month and 25 miles does not help the cause. But I have plenty of time to make up the difference.

Ride statistics for: 07/04/2011

Yep...

Had to ride to Palatka to loan the nephew some money so that was the first part of the ride. Actually started off in the morning a bit after 9 I think. Decided to jump on state road 100 and head back towards the Grandin trail head and get picked up there. All new pavement (see 2nd pic, tried out the new home made camera mount, worked better than the cheap one I bought & broke) with a nice bike lane on the side. NOT much traffic out when I was riding. I got to the trail head in grandin and was feeling pretty good so decided to ride home. Normally I really don't like riding SR315 because there is no bike lane. But today there was not much traffic. Picture 1 is just a shot of some of the rolling hills on SR315. Was a great ride... just under 38 miles. Worst part of the whole ride was actually walking my bike 1/3 of a mile down the dirt/sand road to my house... REALLY HOT at that point.

Yep..... Almost 22 miles exactly. Only thing of note about the ride was on the way back I saw something in the bike lane looked like an iPod. So I stopped and walked back to it... turns out it was a cheap dollar store suduku (sp) electronic game .. and it was busted to pieces. So stood there for a minute had a drink waited for a break in the traffic. As I started going again I saw an SUV turn around and head back the other way. Well a couple of minutes later he goes past me and pulls over. As I ride up to him he asks "do you need a ride"... I'm like nah im good but thanks anyway.. He says "ohhh your just out for a ride then?" I'm like "yep"..... I figure he must have thought I was broke down or out of gas when he saw my stopped looking at the "NON iPod".. so he stopped to see If I needed a ride. Kind of cool... Considering all of the negative things drivers tend to do to people on bikes.

Anyway... Pretty good ride...
