Another great Posse ride with Jim T (just back from France), Rich, Ralph, Janelle, Bob, Roscoe, and Mark. We said goodbye to Roscoe at Panera Bread as he had some work to do and the rest of us rode on. We came into the Horse Farms from the back side today just to change things up a bit. The weatherman called for possible shower at noon but nothing materialized. The 22 mile loop from PB and back to PB we averaged 15.7 mph. Good ride everybody.

We got a late start this morning even though every one was at the trail head at 8 am. Alan joined us for this ride on his mt bike, Rich and Renae were on fixes. Roscoe had to go back home to get Rich's new Posse jersey so we didn't start until 8:30. We by passed mandarin in order to get to PB before the folks that were meeting us their. After coffee we headed for the horse farms with plans to get back to Colonial Town shopping plaza to watch the end on the Tour de France. After the TdF was over we headed for home. Great ride with Jim T and Becky, Tom and Renae, Roscoe, Rob, Alan, Rich and I. I burned a lot of calories today but that Pecan Braid at PB and Cesar Salad with shrimp at Liam Fitzpatrick's Irish Restaurant probably canceled them out.

Finally got a chance to ride today. First time in over a week. :o Too many appointments interrupting our lives.
Rode from home to Inverness Bicycle and Fitness and talked to Sherry about a shifting problem I'm having with the Cannondale. :( Then rode north for a bit and decided to head home. Rode a whopping 30 miles. :(

Good ride with the FFW today. Stayed with the main group for about the first 20 miles then the heat and tired legs took over. I was glad Ralph stayed back and helped pull me along into the head wind as we rode along the south side of the lake then turned south into even more of a head wind. I managed to hold a 16.8 mph average for the first 24.5 miles but I was toast after that

Good ride today with John, Jim T, Bob, Janelle, Ralph, and Alan. Made the usual stop at Panera Bread for coffee then headed out International to Wayside then over to Sylvan lake Road and out to Foxspur. Our 19 mile segment from PB to PB we averaged 16.1 mph. The temps hit the low 90s on the way home and the humidity was high but no rain. Good ride everybody.

Took the Litespeed out today and did my usual ride from home to the north end of the Withlacoochee and back. That bike is SO comfortable. We "bonded" in the summer of 2003 and 2004 (I was just a "kid" then) while I was "between jobs". I rode 40+ hilly miles 4-5 days a week. :thumb:

Did 35.5 miles today. :)

Good ride with Barry, Rich, Jim T, Bob, Ralph and Roscoe. For our 21 mile segment from PB and back to PB we averaged 16.7 mph. My Garmin showed a 107 degree max temp. Although the temp is not that hot 107 is what we are feeling from direct sun and reflection from the road.

took the Cannondale out today for my usual ride. Got about a mile north of the Citrus Spring trailhead and gave up and headed home. I'm guessing it was because we were on the road for about 6 hours yesterday. I often have this problem the day after being in the car for that long. :(
Rode a "whopping" 30 miles. :o

Very good ride with Donna, Roscoe, Rich, Ralph, Jared, Tom, Renae, Jim T, Becky, Rob, and John B. We split into 2 groups at the Lake Monroe Marina and one group rode the road and the other group stayed on the trail and we regrouped at the C store in Osteen. That was the 30 mile turnaround point. We averaged about 15.6 mph to that point. The ride back was somewhat slower into the wind. We took a break at the Lake Mary Panera to get some lunch and while there a serious storm with heavy rains and strong winds blew thru, chairs and umbrellas were blowing everywhere. Roscoe and I road from Panera to home after the rain stopped while some of our party hitched a ride.

Did my usual ride today. Ran into some sprinkles and light rain when heading north on the Withlacoochee. Rode 35.5 miles.

Rode with Jim T, Bob, John L, Barry, Ralph, Janelle and Rich today. Janelle and I got in a fast 7 miles before we met the rest of the crew at the trail head for our normal start at 8 am. We took our usual break at PB for coffee then headed out International to Wayside then Sylvan lake Road. We were keeping an eye on the weather since rain was predicted to arrive early today. After a short break at the trail head we retraced our route back to PB. At that point I was dropped off the back and didn't see much of the group again until we regrouped at PB. I decided to take a longer break and told the rest of the group to go on. While at PB a strong storm rolled thru while I was resting so I am sure the rest of the group took a good soaking. After the storm I started to head for home and everything was fine until I got to where the Seventh Day Adventist Church is located, at that point a black bear walked out of the woods on my left and stopped in the middle of the trail facing me. I stopped and we just sort of started at each other with neither of us moving. I started ringing my bear bell and fortunately the bear blinked first and retreated back into the woods. I must admit I was a little intimated being that close and being face to face.

Took the Cannondale out and did my usual ride today. Didn't see many riders. I guess the warm weather must be keeping everyone indoors. It felt very nice this morning to me -- low humidity. :)
I haven't seen many tortoises on the trail this spring and summer. Are the locals or the homeless folks who have their "camp" on the north end of the trail at mile marker 36 doing some poaching?

Rode 35.5 miles.

The SCTAC Greenville Spinners group ride was way too big (with ~50 people in one group) and way too disorganized. After riding a faster and more organized Thursday night ride of less than 10 people, I'm not going back to larger chaotic rides.
I would rather be safe than take risks passing dozens of people constantly moving from the front to back of the group, while riding 3 abreast.

kjc9640 07-31-14 11:29 AM

Very hot ride today with Carl, Bob, Jim T, Ralph Roscoe, Janelle, Barry, and John B. Got dropped again at about the 20 mile mark, not sure what the problem is, just running out of energy, or everyone else is getting much faster. No rain today but the Garmin registered 109 degrees.

Great ride today, legs felt fresher than they have over the last couple of weeks. Had Heed in both water bottles and my camel back filled with frozen water. With temps in the 90s it didn't stay frozen long. Rode with Rich, Rob, Tom and Renae, John and Donna, Linda, Roscoe, and Mark. We all had coffee at Panera Bread with Ralph and Sandy then headed out. For our 27 mile ride from Panera Bread to the SHG and back to Panera Bread we averaged 16.14 mph.
The average could have been a little higher but we had a couple of miles that approached or exceeded the 5 min mark. We need to keep everything well under the four min. mark to help our average. I enjoyed riding with everyone, it was a good group. The lack of rain was in our favor today.

Got a late start today (9:20 AM). Did my usual ride from home to the trail but decided to throw in a few extra miles. Rode south from Hernando to Arlington Rd and then headed north. Seemed like everyone else was also headed north. Had a snack and water refill at the north end and then headed home. Rode a total of 41 miles.

kjc9640 08-05-14 11:12 AM

Good ride with Roscoe, Bob, Carl, Ralph and Alan. Our 22.5 mile segment from PB to the horse farms then out to the Sylvan Lake trail head and back to PB we averaged 16 mph. Alan rides a mt bike and he can drop us any time he feels like it, but at only 32 years old he has a little advantage over us old guys. Good ride everyone.

Good ride this morning, met John, and Mark and his wife at the trail head at 8am. Had a nice easy social ride to E.E. Williams where we got separated from Mark but picked up Ralph. After coffee at PB John had to head back so Ralph and I rode together for the remainder of the ride. Our average from PB to PB was 15.5 mph and Ralph pulled the entire distance. The temperature got into the 90s and the humidity was high but no rain and wind was not a big factor. Good ride everybody.

Rode the Cannondale from the house to Hernando, then headed north to the Citrus Springs trailhead. Decided to turn around there and head south and head for Inverness Bicycle and Fitness -- only to find they were closed. The sign on the door said closed due to illness. I was hoping to talk with Sherry the owner about the Cannondale. I guess that will wait till next time. :o
Rode north to Hernando and then headed home for a total of 37.1 miles.

RonH 08-09-14 01:22 PM

Rode the Cannondale from home to Hernando and then south to Inverness Bicycle & Fitness. Sherry and Danny were there and answered a few questions I had about the bike. Danny made a minor adjustment and the shifting was much better. Made an appt to bring the bike in for some other adjustments on Aug 26 when Bob (the mechanic) who is on vacation will be back.
Then rode south to Floral City. Had some water and a snack and headed home. Ran into rain south of Inverness. :o Stopped at the shelter for a few minutes till it passed. Then headed home. Ran into more showers between Inverness and Hernando. The sky was cloudless when I left home so where did the rain come from?
Anyway, rode 37.8 miles.
