I'll check it out, and let you know what I think of the new Louis Pappas Market Cafe.

When we lived in Clearwater the wife and I would ride to Tarpon for that salad about once a month. That and a chunk of Greek bread made a full meal. On Sunday we used to ride to a Greek bakery on one of the side streets down on the docks for fresh baked Greek bread to take home. The bread never made it back past Duedin. We would just stop and eat it right out of the bag on the way home.

A tooth ache woke me in the middle of the night and by the time I was comfortable enough to sleep again it was 7 and time to roll out for the sat am shop ride. I didn't even try, instead I just ride to work and then home, nearly hit by a redneck in a f150 on the way home.

Not worried about #'s today, but I'm lovin' my new 'puter, so much detail.

Anyway, thursday I got to do 2 25 m rides before work. First, a few of us headed out from the shop and when we got back the boss told another guy I work with that he wasn't expected yet and that should go ride, then he tells me that I can go ride with him. Off we went. Its nice to work for a shop that encourages one to ride, unlike the last shop that I worked at.

Friday we didn't get very far before my fellow employee caught some uneven pavement and took out another guy. I heard some noise behind me, as I was just ridin' along in front, and looked over my shoulder to see a CSX service truck go by and figured something shifted in it's bed. Then I heard a yell and looked back to see some of the guys standing on the side of the hwy. Well this is a no drop A ride, for flats and mechanicals not lack of strength. After both fhp and leo stops, and seeing the 2 involed off in their family evacs, the shop owner and myself turned around to get back to open up shop while the remaing couple of guys rode on.

Ever notice how there is never a leo in sight when you almost die due to a raging cager, but if you are stopped on the side of the road for some reason, that's when they'll stop? WTF?

Hey Boatdesigner, wondered where you had been. Hadn't seen you post for a while. Some of us were looking for you to help design the arc a few weeks ago during all of the rain here in FL. Glad to hear your back on the bike and feeling better.

I had to give up arc design as the environmental rules on all that waste disposal were unworkable! :) I am designing a few small, wooden sportfishing boats for clients who intend to build them in their backyards. With most of the boat industry shut down, that's all the work that is available. Doesn't pay much, but they are fun to design.

I am feeling better, just some small aches and pains from time to time. I rode 15.8 miles today, didn't feel great when I left but didn't want to not ride. Quite a bit of wind over here this morning, odd because it usually doesn't blow as hard when the humidity is up. I was surprised by the lack of traffic on the Withlacoochee Trail, maybe everyone was at church or something.

Why thanks for asking.

Its a cateye V2c http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/461 and it does almost everything and more. I'm still working on working out all the little details. Having a cadence is really cool and helps me with gauging my efforts. It has no gps or heart rate, but that's out of my price range, even with my shop employee discount.

I would recommend this 'puter to anyone who is even moderately serious about fitness and performance. I'd love to get another transmitter unit and stick it on my fixie.

We just finished the week long BRAG. This years ride started in Hiawassee, Ga then Dahalonaga, Cornelia, Athens, Elberton, Washington, and finished in Savanah Lakes resort in South Carolina. The first two days in the mountains we went over Unicoi Gap at a 14% grade for 2.5 miles of climbing. It was the toughest cycling I had ever encountered. Lots of big rolling hills the rest of the way and beautiful scenery, much better than last years ride to St Simons Island. Numbers were down this year as well only about 1200 folks maybe the hills or economy. Any way its in the record books now.

That's a great Idea perfect excuse to check out the bike shop in Palatka. I did sign up on your forum but kind of forgot about doing so ..... DOH!

<trying to motivate myself>..... I will be less busy after Thursday so i'm going to ----> TRY <---- and get up in the mornings and go for rides before the heat hits. I'm not really a morning person, I get up early but dont really like to do anything LOL.. But the afternoon heat is killing my riding I just cant get going when its 90+ degrees out. Usually works when I mention im going to ride on here.... so giving that a try :P

So who is??!! Get on the "buddy system". Make a couple of local club rides - meet some people you can ride with - make commitments to get up and meet them for weekday morning rides! Just "planning on getting out" is a whole lot different from having told another, "I'll meet you at Joe's Cafe a 8AM".

i would love to be riding this afternoon.. but seems we have been getting these severe thunderstorms, tornado warnings, and hail. Don't think i'll be getting out. Maybe tomorrow

Rode 13.4 miles today with my 12 year old son. Didn't go fast, but enjoyed spending time with him. It was already steamy at 8:15 when we left, I really don't want to get up before 7 am! I may have to get up at 6:30 so I can get on the road by 7:30 am.

VA_Esquire 06-16-09 06:01 PM

Rode only 10 miles today (Summer school 15 credits and work....actually in class now) though it has got me thinking....
I am in a weight loss phase and every 10 pounds I have bought myself a gift.
Started at 225, once I hit:
220 I bought cycling clothes
210 bought shoes and clipless pedals (and got my first 0mph accident, haha)
200 bought a new bike
NOW I have broke 190 and purchased a new wheelset.

Does anyone else do this?
Rides coming up:
Wednesday- 20 miles
Thursday- 0 to 5 miles (VERY busy...)
Friday- 6:15am shop ride for 25 miles @ B pace
Saturday- 7:30am ride for 30 miles @ A pace

I find the more weight I lose the faster/longer I can ride :)

Boatdesigner 06-17-09 09:06 AM

I rode 16.7 miles this morning, the longest post-surgery ride yet. I hope to do a 20 miler in the next week. Slowly but surely building back up! It is getting really hot though, so I am going to set my alarm clock a little earlier in the hope of getting out by 7:30 am.

Esquire, keep up the great work. Losing that much weight is hard! I lost forty pounds last fall while I was sick, I could never lose weight when I tried! The most I ever lost was 10 pounds and that was after riding 75-100 miles a week for months on end. Now my battle is to keep the pounds off as I am finally at a healthy weight.

VA_Esquire 06-17-09 02:46 PM

Messed with my saddle and handlebar positioning a bit and love the new setup. On top of that, learned to work on the shifting and have seen butter rougher than the shifting :P
25 miles in 1:04 hours (Just over 25mph average....easy math, haha) alone
Had to do almost a TT positioning on road handlebars....body is killing me.

VA_Esquire 06-17-09 07:22 PM

Went out tonight to do sprints and to see how fast I could go by myself on flats.
Found a 1/2 mile stretch and went for it and got up to a 35mph sitting in the saddle stretch for about 15 seconds. Very thrilling definitely when the section of the road was a 25mph speed limit :P

The Wife and I went on our Sat am ride leaving at 8am went 9 miles had breakfast at a diner and rode home. No kids, no trailor, man it was nice!!!

Boatdesigner 06-20-09 04:20 PM

Rode 22.4 miles today, the most since my surgery on May 11. That gave me 98 miles for the week, not bad considering how little riding I have done this year. I left at 7:45 and it was already pretty humid and muggy. I got home around 9:30 and it was plenty hot for me! It got worse though because I still had to mow the lawn. Glad I have a riding mower, I never would have survived pushing one!

Now I'm cleaning my chain, that goop they put on new chains is nasty, it collected every bit of road grime for the last few hundred miles like a magnet. It's still sticky after cleaning it with degreaser twice. If it keeps collecting dirt, I am going to pull it off and soak it in something more powerful than the friendly degreaser I use now.

wolfpack 06-20-09 05:31 PM

wd-40 works great.

droobieinop 06-20-09 06:00 PM

I had a majorly tramatic tooth extraction tues am and have been off the bike all week. The swelling ahs gone down, I no longer look like I have a pouch of beechnut in my cheek, just a nice fist full instead.

Took my fixie to work and rode the 6+ miles home. Felt good, I'll have to go short sun to spin up for next week.

Ex Pres 06-20-09 07:49 PM

Left @ 7 this morning to try and beat the heat. Sorta worked, as our route was screwed up by construction and we kept having to stop and consult our map. First 65 miles were great. The heat started really coming up over the next few. The last 17 were awful on the 94o baked asphalt. Did 95 total.
