Sunny, warm, what a great way to end the year. Did 37 miles. My average speed was up from the cold rides by ~1.5 mph. My yearly total was lower than I'd hoped for. I must do better next year!!!

Yes, Hubby and I took the mountain bikes down to the Lake Panasoffkee wildlife management area today. Had never been there before and we weren't real sure how the trails were. (Nice area with equestrian and primitive camping and a campground host.) There were no maps in the box but we looked at the one that was posted and decided to try the Jones Creek Trail. Went down about 3 miles of shellrock road and turned onto a Loop Trail. We went another couple of miles but finally had to stop as the shellrock turned into some really sandy areas that were impossible to ride on. We did see a big black hog and evidence of more as that part of the trail was pretty rutted. We decided to head back as we just weren't real thrilled riding (or trying to ride) in the sand. When we returned, the campground host was putting maps in the slots and we went and spoke to her. She told us that the original trail we were on would have been the best and that it eventually would have taken us over a creek and continued on for another 5 miles or so. We checked out the primitive camping area and have decided to go back one weekend and camp and try the trails again. Overall, nice day and I finally got to put a few miles on my mb. Hadn't been able to ride it much since hubby's rotator cuff surgery.

Hmmmmm not sure where Lake Panasofkee is.... gonna have to look... I really have been getting the urge to go ride the mountain bike on some trails.... I like riding the mountain bike in the cooler weather. Normally don't ride as fast, so if its cold your not making it more cold riding fast... BUT... the whole hunting thing kind of puts me off a bit. Don't really want to be mistaken for a deer by a drunk hunter or something.... DOH!!!

Yep......... I got a ride in today on the way back from the flea market... 13.57 miles into the wind the WHOLE way. First 3 miles were on the road NO break from the wind. Well I got the first fall of the year out of the way..... DOH!! Pulled off the side of the road to umm take a break for a min. Coasted a bit too far hit some loose sand.... was almost stopped and over I went.... could not get un-clipped fast enough. Ended up keeping pace with a guy in front of me about 1/4 mile.. Made the ride into the wind a bit better. Said hello at the end when he turned around and I got picked up.

Great ride....... Enjoyed it even with the wind....

ytd= 13.57 <----- lol

Spent the morning cleaning the bike, boy was it dirty, put new jockey wheels on the rear D.

26 miles today good ride perfect weather except for the wind 12/21 mpr from the south. 13 of my miles were south bound.
Total miles this year 2011 26
Average ride this year 26 miles per ride

Might have to try this mtb thing

Lake Panasofkee is west of Leesburg and east of Inverness off of SR 44. Southwest Fla Wildlife Management area. The campground host gave me a list of the dates that the hunting takes place. Believe me, we won't be around for that.

Yes, about 11 miles on the mountain bike. Went to the 49th Ave Trailhead, just west of Santos. Took the shellrock road out to SR484 and crossed over. The trail from there west was very hilly. It goes up some of the old Cross Fl Barge Canal dunes. Turned around and on our way back we ended up meeting some people on horseback. They told us to pass but when hubby started to, one of the horses bucked so we stopped. They then started complaining that he shouldn't have passed (after they told him to) and started telling us we were on a horse trail. We explained to them that they had just come off of the horse trail and were on a multi purpose trail. We let them go ahead and watched as they got to the fence to cross 484. When they got to the fence they must have seen the multi purpose sign as they decided not to cross over. They went off to the side of the trail and let us go by and then turned around and got back on the horse trail. As many times as we've run into horseback riders, this was the first time we've ever had any issues. Anyway, the weather was great and it was a really good workout. Much better than the spinner at the gym. Hopefully we worked off some of the Christmas goodies we had last night.

Went out for a 75+ mile ride from Orange Park to Keystone Heights. We did a couple miles on the new PLB Trail where we saw a vehicle on the driving in front of us. Turned out to be a deputy looking for a missing little girl, haven't heard whether she was found or not. Hope the best but, we did see 2 cars with lights flashing rush by while we were at the gas station (interesting people out there). Saw 2 more deputies going south after turning up 21. Good ride, 5 started out, picked up 3 more on the way out, 8 total. On the way back north, 2 dropped off on 21 near 16, another on 220 near 209, I was last with about half mile left (ride passes my house). I did fight cramps for half the distance back, which sucked. I did bail on today's 85+ mile ride, which I've done once this season and didn't feel I'd do well. Anyway, here's my Garmin data.

27 miles today with beautiful weather
2 ride days this yr. vs 2 ride days last yr.
-12.8 miles vs this time last yr.
26.5 miles average per ride this yr.
6,947 miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000

Had planned to do about 35 today but I broke my seat post at about the 7 mile mark. At about the 25 mile mark I found a bike store that was open and they put me back together temporarily from some junk pieces. I ordered a new post and it should be here Wednesday.

Aah, back to commuting tomorrow morning! The break was nice. I got a call from a friend at work, wanting to know what kind of tires he should get to prevent flats, and asking when we could go ride. I was flattered! (I recommended the Schwalbe Marathon Plus)

I'm hoping to commute as much as possible this year. Can I hit 80% bike commute days? I don't know, but I'm going to try.

Also, I have found myself lusting after a CETMA cargo bike. Man, I wish they didn't cost so darn much money... but I'd use one of those, no questions.

Happy New Years to everybody, and here's to safe cycling!

Did you ride 18 miles standing up.... ? Or was your seat post a little bit broke? I remember watching some downhill bike racing on TV once where the guy broke his seat clean off... That nut finished the run standing up..

I did end up going for a short ride to the Hardware store again today. Even if they are short rides makes me feel good knowing I saved a lil bit of gas doing something I needed to do anyway. I went 4.82 miles.

No, I stripped the threads on the nut and bolt that attach the post to the seat rails. I had enough good threads to hold the seat on but not enough to tighten the seat down. It was like being in a Lazy Boy recliner rocking back and forth. Well Lazy Boy recliner might be a stretch. More like riding a bucking horse

Wow! 2011! Yes, I did ride today. Went out piddlin' on the fixie for about 8 miles.

Not only first ride of the new year, but first ride in over three months. Hurt my back and it took forever to heal + the cold weather we've had. Then the back no sooner starts feeling better and the cold weather breaks than the missus picks up a bug from her work, (she's a nurse ... comes with the territory). So I missed the whole beautiful last week, too!

Been a while since I posted on here, too ... since May, to be exact.

Hope everyone's is well and has a Happy New Year!

Today is my first day of work this year. Meh. At least I road my bike in. 36 F when I left. Brrr. It'll be in the 50s in the afternoon, so that won't be bad at all. I double-socked but my toes were still cold. Everything else was okay. Thought about wearing another layer under my jeans but didn't. My legs were really cold but they didn't make me cold if that makes sense. Still, I'm going to double up next time it's that cold. No one else was out but I did leave before 7am. Really need to do that more often because 15-20 minutes makes a huge difference in the amount of traffic.

Did 33 miles on the new bike today. A little on the cool side and a little breezy. I told my wife we could go for a walk when I got home from my ride (warmest part of the day) but she declined. She said it was too cold and windy. I can't win. She says the summers are too hot for her and now she thinks the winters are too cold. Gotta win the lottery so we can get a home in FL for the winter and NC mountains for the summer.

It was 45 with light wind when I left home. Seems as soon as I got out on the road it started to blow. Had a great tailwind during the ride out. However the wind coming home had me in gears I generally don't use on my regular ride. Did 22 cool and breezy miles.
