Any rides in Loudoun County, Va?

Hi all. I moved to South Riding, Va in October from Hawaii and I'm looking for some rides around here. I haven't really ridden since I moved here, but the weather is getting more to my liking and I'm getting the urge to get out on the roads. Anything around the 25 to 30 mile mark to start. As I stated I'm in South Riding and would like to be able to go directly from my house to where ever and back. It can even be multiple loops or something to get the desired miles. I know the W & OD trail is close, but I would rather not have to drive somewhere. Thanks in advance. Laters.

Welcome to Virgina.

Loudon is a great place to ride. Lots of quiet, and not so quiet, country roads. Good riding in Faquier, too.

I've never ridden around south riding so I don't know what is at your door. Maybe Braddock Road and Gum Springs.

One good loop from Middleburg involves Sam-Fred Rd out and St Louis back, then Atoka out and Zula back. That's not too far a drive for you

Mid-county is Lincoln Rd, North Fork, Snickersville, Airmont, Silicott Springs.
Up-county is Woodgrove, Mountain Rd, Irish Corner, Taylortown, Milltown, Loyalty, Clarksburg Gap
East-county is the W&OD, Harmony Church, Woodburn, and lots of riding around Landsdown, Ashburn and Sterling.
And west-county is Mount Weather

PPTC does a lot of rides in Loudon. Try one of their club rides, or join to get access to their cue sheet library.

One of their regular rides is a loop around Dulles Airport. Probably uses the Loudon County Parkway and Old Ox Rd.

Have fun.

Loudoun has plenty of good routes! As cc_rider mentioned, there are some good ones that start in Middleburg. Here's one of my faves:

You can also search at MapMyRide, Bikely or RouteSlip for more - plenty are posted, many are fun.

I think bikewashington.org lists some routes in that area. 2nd the pptc cue sheet library and monthly ride calendar. There is an unofficial pptc google groups email list - I'd also ask around there and on the pptc web site forums.

Thanks for the replies. I did a ride today that I made up using Google Maps. One thing for sure is the roads here are more narrow than what I was used to back in HI. But I'm sure I'll get used to it with time. Laters.
