DC/MD/VA Recommend an extension to Macarthurt Blvd ride

Howdy all. I do a ride from my house that is about 30 miles, and I'm looking for good ways to extend it. The bulk of it is (from the Key Bridge in Georgetown), up 33rd St, left on Reservoir to Macarthur down into and out of Great Falls, to River Road and back down Persimmon Tree road, back to Gtown.

What I'm looking for is suggestions on good roads (for bikes) north and west of the juncture of Falls Rd and River Rd. Usually I go right on River to Persimmon Tree, but I know if you go left, a number of good routes are out there- Travilah, Piney Meetinghouse, Turkey Foot...does anyone have any god ~20 mile routes out that direction?

Thanks,

Happy to oblige! I'm one of the co-leaders of the PPTC Tuesday night "Downtown Breakaway" ride, and while we seldom go beyond your normal stomping ground, I ride a lot of routes that go beyond that.

Here's a route for a PPTC ride I almost led (rained out in 2007) that starts in Glen Echo and goes 50-something miles from there:

Here are some variations on the "Real Ride from the Real City" PPTC ride I lead from the Gandhi statue near Dupont Circle:

60 miles: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...0-mile-version
56 miles: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...6-mile-version

Use these as starters - there are plenty more out there on MaypMyRide, Bikely and RouteSlip.

Good luck!
