Oh Jesus, no more rain. We had another 1.5" today, it just wont stop. The mosquito population is going to hit record proportions real quick.

Whew! As of the 5AM advisory they've revised the track and now it looks like it's headed away from Florida! For now! But it is offically a hurricane now, which Fay never was.

Not getting us in Fort Myers! The activity has motivated me to get the electrician out to install a hook up for my generator to the house.

Current track takes it right into Houston, TX. OTOH, it could be another Labor Day surprise for NOLA.

So if it hits New Orleans area, do you think they will figure out what to do this time?

Yep, they'll put 50,000 people in the superdome, let another 200 schoolbuses get flooded, 125,000 won't take it seriously until the Levee breaks again (or is blown up by the corp of engineers) and, again, it will all be "W's" fault.

edit:

The 5PM update has the track now moving more toward the LA coast.

None of the above was ever blamed on W. Just the poor response of FEMA on account of the moron that the moron W appointed to run it, whose only prior experience was running horse shows! (Which, as we all know, are just a bunch of horses showing their asses to a bunch of horses asses showing their horses! )

But you're right about one thing ... they'll probably just do the same thing. The Corp of Engineers is busy right now rebuilding the levees with the same technology that failed last time, with the open admission that they doubt they'll withstand a Cat 3, let alone a Cat 5 blow!

The 5 AM update has it still making for landfall west of NOLA, which would put the city in the right front quadrant (the worst part of the storm, typically). That's also the correct location to push a nice, high storm surge right up the river at them again.

You obviously only believe what you read in the news. The blame for the response to Katrina falls on the shoulders of the local government.

Well, at this point, it doesn't matter who was to blame for what.

The NOAA/Nat Hurricane Center has the path projected now with dead aim at New Orleans.

Ray Nagin best get his Ducks lined up and put a mandatory evacuation order in.

And Ray, this time use the School Busses.

Exactly! Or failing that, give `em all bicycles with sails! They'd be able to get out of town fast with no traffic jams!

Wow, just took another look at the 5 day cone on the NHC site, and "dead aim" is right! Course they'll correct the path 100 times between now and landfall, but it looks like The Big Easy is about to become The Big Breezy again!

Katrina wasn't even a direct hit on Louisiana. The Mississippi coast took the brunt, but got none of the media attention. I would hate to see what a Cat 3-5 would do to NOLA.

I hope it stays south until after Labor Day. Big ride coming up then. TS Francis(?) came thru in 2004 and the riders were pedaling hard when riding downhill so the wind wouldn't push them back up the hill.

It looks now it will be more like a Hurricane Rita instead of Katrina.

I know that a lot of people along the Mississippi Gulf Coast are keeping an eye on Gustav, including myself. And, dammit, my wife and I were planning on moving to our new apartment Sept.2, the same day Gustav is (currently) projected to make landfall in Louisiana; now we've bumped the date up to today and Friday, after work, and (praying) we can get most of our stuff moved.

C'mon Jax, Velocity has a right to be scared .... he's from Miami! Jax doesn't get direct hits with major `canes that often and Tampa Bay hasn't been hit in over 70 years, but in Miami it's only been about 70 minutes or so since the last one!

Hey Velocity, tell ya what! Next time you guys get hit and the Red Cross has to show up with supplies, we'll tell them to bring Samsonite instead of sandwiches so you guys can pack up and MOVE THE HELL OUT of there!
