Taylorsville, ky
Hey, I'm going to be staying in Taylorsville for 10 days starting December 18th, is anyone located around there?
I know a few different routes, but not really a ton; this area has some riding potential and I'd like to tap some of it. It'd be great if someone who races could show me around, but I'm not too snobbish to ride around with non-racers. Thanks, Mitcholo |
Hey Mitcholo, I've got you covered. I live 60 miles south of T-ville, but used to live in Shelbyville which is the county seat to the north. I have a friend that lives a few miles from Spencer county (in southern Shelby county). The LBS in Shelbyville has a small, new race team. The man I speak of is on that team (so am I and the LBS owner). I don't have the number handy, but I advise calling Main Street Bikes in Shelbyville to see if they can give a little help or advice. Tom (who will probably answer the phone) is a nice guy. That may get you set up for a ride or two, or at least some guidance on good routes.
As a second plan of attack, I'd suggest the Louisville bike club. Louisvillebicycleclub.org is the website. They are a pretty big, active club and welcome anyone to ride with them (with helmet, of course). The website has a calender of events ( some sort of ride about every day, some pretty good, some shorter and easier). Downtown Louisville is 30-35 miles away (about 40 minutes max by car, I'd say). I don't know what part of Ohio you are from, but if it's flat and you want to find a decent country road with a good hill or two, I'd say to head out and back on Brashears Creek Road (from downtown and heading to the north). If you get on mapquest, you'll see it leading up to Shelby county and a "town" called Figgs. The road that goes over the lake's dam is nice, too (not as hilly). Hwy 55 is kind of bad, but is sometimes needed to get to the next good road. Try W River Road on the south side of town. It has a couple of killer hills, too. That should get you started on the right path. I'd volunteer my own services, but live a little too far out of the way. If you need more help/info, let me know! Cheers, Wilson |
Thanks Wilson! I've already hit the Dam road, 55, and W River road in my previous visits, the riding is alright there. From what I know of the area, anything worth going to is 45 minutes away by car. I'll try to find an email r number for Main Street Bikes. Thanks!
