Van Fleet Trail PIE DAY Ride

Location
Gen. James A. Van Fleet State Trail - Mabel Trailhead
8000 SE 121st Ave
Webster, FL 33597

19 Sep 2009 - 07:00AM

3rd Saturday of September is a day traditionally set aside as a "PIE RIDE DAY" Trying to honor that tradition and inviting other BF'ers out for a ride.

The "Official Rules"
The Annual Pie Ride takes place the 3rd Saturday of Sept. Riders are required to do at least a 15-mile ride with a stop for pie along the way.
Given the area, modifying that to:
15 mile or longer ride. - Pie to be had during the ride - Whether you bought one with you from home or you get one on the ride or within 30 minutes of completing the ride. This route just doesn't have stores along the way.

The only other rule I've ever been made aware of is it can't be mince meat or that general type of pie.

Pics are appreciated and the bike and scenery come into play for effect., Short write up of the ride in the comments or picture captions helps but the main thing is to eat pie on a ride that you will enjoy doing.

I've also had another detail brought to my attention:
September 19th is ALSO International "Talk Like a Pirate" Day so we may have to act accordingly.

So C'mon Matey, this is a great ride in the country... The trail covers 3 county's and is a very quiet trail with lots of nature to be seen. With this being a Pie Ride - There's also bouty involved for all!

What's this mean to the landlubbers on the round wheeled ships?
...Lay off the rum and do some hydrating...
...scout out a place that has some good pie to be plundered after the ride!

*Please bring plenty of water!!. this must be stressed there is no place to get any!!!..
*We will be leaving at the STATE RD> 50 TRAILHEAD. There are restrooms but no place to buy anything.
*This is a not a no drop ride as it's just out and back. Pace should be between 16-20. Anyone who would like to particpate in a pace line ride can do so. Others may ride at their own pace.
*Keep safety in mind Make sure you wear your helmet and check your bike before leaving and lets have a great time!

Please PM or E-Mail me if you plan on coming out for it.

Drew55, I think this would be a very good oppertunity to get some Florida people on this forum together. I hope to make it and will know for sure later in the week. The trail is 29.2 mile long so a ride to Polk City (where I am sure we could find pie) and back would not be out of the question.

And this is one I can't make :-( didn't realize until after I'd set it up, that I've got to be at Ft De Soto to work on the route selection for the 2010 Tour de Cure that the ADA will be holding there this coming spring. So I set up another one https://www.bikeforums.net/southeast/584630-ft-de-soto-pie-day-ride.html#post9668988 that I could go to.
